I was watching the directors commentary to Metallica:Some Kind Of Monster, and they actually said that this song was about the tension between James and Lars at that time. Seems possible, and matches up to what Dr Colossus said about it being about loving someone, but having them put you down until you hate them for it, but you keep coming back for more etc etc..
