Kim, You Bore Me to Death Lyrics
To be clean out of money
But with four healthy limbs
Could drive any body to name their kid Kim
I swear I'd never name my kid Kim
We met at a party
I was drunk and smoking cloves
I really just needed a ride back to town
No I don't smoke cloves anymore
And so she explains her theory
Her feet propped on new pillows
And her roommate behind her playing bongos
Kim, you bore me to death
You bore me to death
Kim, you bore me to death
Kim, you bore me to death
Kim, you bore me to death
Kim, you bore me to death
Kim, you bore me to death
But with four healthy limbs
Could drive any body to name their kid Kim
I swear I'd never name my kid Kim
I was drunk and smoking cloves
I really just needed a ride back to town
No I don't smoke cloves anymore
And so she explains her theory
Her feet propped on new pillows
And her roommate behind her playing bongos
Kim, you bore me to death
You bore me to death
Kim, you bore me to death
Kim, you bore me to death
Kim, you bore me to death
Kim, you bore me to death

I love these words, its such a tribute to how people manage to get away with bumming around in white trash existense. loving the sound of their own voice and out of politeness, we listen. We all know the torture of having a conversation with someone you find dull... only grandaddy could make a song of it! -jack-
This song is amazing to anybody who has ever been trapped in some situation they didn't want to be in stuck listening to someone who is utterly meaningless. This song always takes me back to college when me and my roomates drove upstate to one of our girlfriends b-day parties. From the party, to the bars, back to her place to crash, everyone thought in their own minds they were these wild interesting people... and I was trapt.
god i hate girls like this
Pretty song. To me, it's referring to Kim Deal, the bassist from the Pixies... I've heard that many Pixies fans thought she was the one who killed the band, to go on and form the Breeders. So, as Jason Lytle IS a Pixies fan, he says : "I swear I'd never name my kid Kim"...
@The Dog That Ate... yeah, you left this comment 11 years ago, but you've gotta be right about the Pixies connection. The instrumentation is 100% a Pixies homage. Heavy, bass-forward verses, low-fi fuzzed out electric solos, and Jason's definitely channeling Frank Black in the screaming sections.

This album is one of my favorite by Grandaddy. I love the raw energy and the "to hell with it all I'm doing what I want" attitude.. something that gradually went missing in their latter stuff, but was replaced by improved musicianship and artistry.. a win IMO!
And this song rocks balls. As others have pointed out, the lyrics are very poignant in exposing a vain person's mediocrity. It reminds me of the cheerleader in the American Beauty film.. utterly ordinary!
But the best part for me is the guitar work. It really has to be listened as loud as you can for maximum enjoyment!
My name is Kim, so this song surprised me when it came on. On the other hand, pretty much almost every person I have met in my life is this type of person. They wait for their turn to talk, without listening to what you have to say, and talk about their mundane life as if they were important.
There's a lot of humour here. 'Her roommate behind her playing bongos' always makes me imagine the narrator looking on in horror at what he'd got himself into.
