So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
She said I'll throw myself away
They're just photos after all
I can't make you hang around
I can't wash you off my skin
Outside the frame, is what we're leaving out
You won't remember anyway
I can go with the flow (oh, oh, oh, oh)
Don't say it doesn't matter, matter anymore
I can go with the flow (oh, oh, oh, oh)
Do you believe it in your head?
It's so safe to play along
Little soldiers in a row
Falling in and out of love
Something sweet to throw away
I want something good to die for
To make it beautiful to live
I want a new mistake, lose is more than hesitate
Do you believe it in your head?
I can go with the flow (oh, oh, oh, oh)
Don't say it doesn't matter, matter anymore
I can go with the flow (oh, oh, oh, oh)
Do you believe it in your head?
Do you believe it in your head?
Do you believe it in your head?
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
They're just photos after all
I can't make you hang around
I can't wash you off my skin

Do you believe it in your head?
Do you believe it in your head?
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)
(Oh, oh, oh, oh)

yeah, i betcha that was a real hard one huh? i've always wondered what Go With The Flow meant. thanks bud.
Hey man, not trying to be a dick, but just because people leave replies that don't interest you doesn't mean you or anyone needs to take up space on an otherwise purely musical sight devoted to people sharing insights and musical perspectives, even just praising songs because they dig it but let's all get try and get along =)

That being said, I love this song. =) It never gets old and it's just classic Queens. It's helped me feel better after long conversations or just long days. Fuck it just go with the flow ;)
