Fall Line Lyrics

nd by the way
You know the hope will make you strange
Make yah blink make yah blank make you sink
It will make you afraid of change
And often blame
The box with the view of the world
And the ones who fill the frame
I turn it up but then I turn it off
Because I can't stand when they start to talk
About the hurt and the killing
And the shoes that we're filling
The damage and ruin
Man the things that we're doing
We gotta stop, we gotta turn it all off
We gotta rewind and start it up again

Because we fell across the fall line
Ain’t there nothing sacred any more

Somebody saw him jump, yeah
But nobody saw him slip
I guess he lost a lot of hope
And then he lost a grip
But now he’s lying in the freeway
In the middle of this mess
Guess we lost another one
Just like the other one
Optimistic hypocrite
That didn’t have the nerve to quit
The things that kept him wanting more
Until he finally reached the core

Because we fell across the fall line
Ain’t there nothing sacred any more

just guessing:

i think this is talking about how our world, and society, is falling, across what jack johnson calls the fall line. what is this fall line? where is this line that we are crossing? nothing is good, wholesome, or "sacred" anmore, now that we have crossed this line. Our hope is all we have at this point, as destroyers of ourselves.

it mentions "the box with the veiw of the world"... he is refering to television i believe. we see what we think is the world through television, however you usually don't receive the full picture. We are beginning to blame the television, and the people we see, however the damage is done within ourselves. rather than blame the world and people around us, we must change the world with ourselves first (no matter how cliche this may sound).

We need to stop, take a "minute" and look around to see what we are doing to ourselves. we need to "turn it off" and "rewind". go back to the good, rather than push forwards toward destruction.

we see the things happening around us, but do we see why they are occuring? take global warming for instance.. we know it is happening, but are we reducing the use of oil, and lowering pollution because of it? some may be, but most are just waiting until it is too late. im not saying jack johnson is talking about global warming, im saying that he is talking about our procrastination towards making this world a better place. we need to pay more attention to the people losing hope, and those beggining to slip rather than the stories of those who have jumped. we should shift our attention to matters that greatly improve the world around us rather than what makes a good story.

people always reach for more, for that next thing available, until we lose ourselves to materialism.

this song is brilliant.

I've been trying to figure out what the fall line is symbolizing. I think it might be what's dividing earth with hell, but I'm probably wrong.

JJ has some killer lyrics - a modern day Bob Dylan - 40 years ago Dylan sung 'Its alright Ma I'm only Bleeding' which says just what JJ is saying now. Maybe we all go through a life stage of shiftng values & losing faith in the process ..

"Disillusioned words like bullets bark As human gods aim for their mark Made everything from toy guns that spark To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark It's easy to see without looking too far That not much is really sacred."

There is actually a second verse to this song:

Somebody saw him jump, ya, but nobody say him slip I guess he lost a lot of hope, and then he lost his grip And now he's lying on the freeway in the middle of this mess Guess we lost another one just like the otherone Optimistic Hypocrite who didn't have the nerve to quit The things that kept him wanting more until he finally reached the core And feel across the fall line Ain't there nothing sacred anymore Na, na, na, na, na, na, na

There was originally was a verse before hand that isn't on the CD, that you can get on Jack Johnson's website for his liveshows- p.s. if anyone wants to trade liveshows email me @ ahutch@gmail.com the lyrics:

I don't care if it rains or freezes, as long as I got my plastic Jesus, sitting on the dashboard of my car. It comes in colors pink and pleasant, it glows in the dark because is iradescent, I will take it with me whenever I go far.

So give me my lady madonna, dressed in rhinestones and sitting onna, pedastal of babylony shelves, Driving 90 but I'm not scary, cuz I got my virgin Mary, assuring me I can never go to hell.

(pick up rest of song)

p.s. claims this song was based on Coolhand Luke which if you know the movie I can see it and I can't. But still a great movie.
