i think this is talking about how our world, and society, is falling, across what jack johnson calls the fall line. what is this fall line? where is this line that we are crossing? nothing is good, wholesome, or "sacred" anmore, now that we have crossed this line. Our hope is all we have at this point, as destroyers of ourselves.
it mentions "the box with the veiw of the world"... he is refering to television i believe. we see what we think is the world through television, however you usually don't receive the full picture. We are beginning to blame the television, and the people we see, however the damage is done within ourselves. rather than blame the world and people around us, we must change the world with ourselves first (no matter how cliche this may sound).
We need to stop, take a "minute" and look around to see what we are doing to ourselves. we need to "turn it off" and "rewind". go back to the good, rather than push forwards toward destruction.
we see the things happening around us, but do we see why they are occuring? take global warming for instance.. we know it is happening, but are we reducing the use of oil, and lowering pollution because of it? some may be, but most are just waiting until it is too late. im not saying jack johnson is talking about global warming, im saying that he is talking about our procrastination towards making this world a better place. we need to pay more attention to the people losing hope, and those beggining to slip rather than the stories of those who have jumped. we should shift our attention to matters that greatly improve the world around us rather than what makes a good story.
people always reach for more, for that next thing available, until we lose ourselves to materialism.
just guessing:
