Dreaming Of You Lyrics
You, I wish I knew you better
Then again I can wait 'til next September
Slowly buying time
These conditions make me restless
Then again I admit that this will test us
'Cuz everywhere now
I can see the number one followed by the nine
I wonder if a year or two will matter because I'm...
Dreaming of you, all day, hardly seems appropriate
Tested and true, all day, the situation's delicate
You, I dreamt the seven towers
Were slowly falling down
And in the last remaining hours
Still everywhere now
I could see the number one followed by the nine
Just this once I think I might cast the rules aside
Dreaming of you, all day, hardly seems appropriate
Just drifting through, all day, no one seems to notice it
Everyone's behind us
We don't dare lead the blindest
Still the promise of the victory
Eliminates stakes against me
Dreaming of you, all day, hardly seems appropriate
Just drifting through, all day, no one seems to notice it
You, I wish you knew you better
Then again I can wait 'til next September
Slowly buying time
These conditions make me restless
Then again I admit that this will test us
'Cuz everywhere now
I can see the number one followed by the nine
I wonder if a year or two will matter because I'm...
Tested and true, all day, the situation's delicate
Were slowly falling down
And in the last remaining hours
Still everywhere now
I could see the number one followed by the nine
Just this once I think I might cast the rules aside
Just drifting through, all day, no one seems to notice it
We don't dare lead the blindest
Still the promise of the victory
Eliminates stakes against me
Just drifting through, all day, no one seems to notice it

fromadistantsun, I think you hit the nail on the head. I think the lyrics are from the point of view of a college professor who is attracted to a 19 year old student. He also references 'next September' and "I wonder if a year or two will matter..".
does anyone else think the vocals sound a little like the beatles in this song? i really like this song though. a lot.
this song is absolutely lovely. Jay's voice is so amazing, he writes the best songs in the band.
This is totally about him being a giant loser in high school and how no girls would give him the time of day. With good cause, too! Writing crazy ass songs about girls he secretly lusted after. PERV CHECK, KAY?
Jay Ferguson had a premenition about the Twin Towers... spooky!
Could be way off, but I get the feeling this song is about him being attracted to a younger woman (maybe a 19-year-old, hence "1 followed by the 9") and feeling conflicted about it. He's been waiting until she's older to try anything with her, but he's considering "cast[ing] the rules aside" and going for it.
