Dismiss the Cynics Lyrics

Will we find a solution,
when we add all the numbers?
Like they are supposed to be?
But no one is close…start all over!

If we fail our expectations
We fall into the deepest void
Is there a limit to how many times
we will dust ourselves off?

What does it take for sanity to remain?
Dismiss the cynics ..maybe..

The mystery of times.
Listen to me carefully.
The mystery of times.
It’s you and me,
that’s all we need.

Would you choose supremacy
if it led to isolation?
Could you handle the solitude?
Would you still prefer the throne?

The mystery of times.
Listen to me carefully
The mystery of times.
It’s you and me
That’s all we need

Would you choose supremacy if it led to isolation? Could you handle the solitude? Would you still prefer the throne?

cynic -

  1. a person who believes that all people are motivated by selfishness
  2. A member of a sect of ancient Greek philosophers who believed virtue to be the only good and self-control to be the only means of achieving virtue

By looking at the meaning of the word cynic, it really helps to understand what this song is about.

Well, in my opinion he's talking about people choosing ego, ability, or selfish paths over people.

The song's message is simple - Love is all you need. Don't be superior if it leads to loneliness. Seems to me he'd rather be inferior with love.

I love how it pretty much says 'Would you sacrifice love for your own gain? Would you be miserable to be the best? Would you be the king, without a queen?'

This song is about how mankind does lots of bad things, and being disappointed in mankind because of it. The ultimate answer to how to retain sanity is: Love (it's you and me, that's all we need). The last verse is about someone who rejects love (could you hanlde the solitude).

To me that sounds like being depressed a little bit, sad over something? That's all I really have to say (i'm dumb :D)

Would you choose supremacy if it led to isolation? Could you handle the solitude? Would you still prefer the throne?

They're just cool lyrics that I like!

Seems to me like the person whose point of view the song is from is working hard to figure out the answer to something or to accomplish, even though an answer may not exist or that task may be impossible.

The second part refers to how many times someone can fail before giving up. Is there a limit?

My interpiration (sp?) of this song is that there are things in life that will depress you or drag you down the think that can ultimatly raise you up is love and thats all we need

but i could be shooting in the dark here...

A cynic is someone who belives that selfishness motivates mankinds and discourages selfless acts.

Most likely this song is about letting go of selfishness and putting up with the consequences of selflessness - not sure, I just skimmed over the lyrics, so I'm probably wrong.

Whatever.

Personally I think this song is telling about how we try hard to figure things if we fail our expectations of what things might mean we might get thrown off the horse but we don't know the limit of how many times we will get back up. When he says

"The mystery of times. Listen to me carefully. The mystery of times. It’s you and me, that’s all we need."

I think hes trying to say is that there is only one truth to the mystery of time and that is the attraction between the human soul. At the very end of the song "Would you choose supremacy if it led to isolation? Could you handle the solitude? Would you still prefer the throne?" I believe that they are talking about the supremacy over that attraction even though it led to the loneliness of one another it ask the person if they could stand it any more and ask if they still wanted that type of thinking.

But what do I know. To each his own.
