Do you remember where you were on that day?
A day of life sentences and x-rays
My name was on that birthday cake

[Chinga]
Your mother, your father, your brother, and the thing under the covers
Your lover, the others, the leeches, and the serpents and the suckers
Your mother, your father, the babies and the nurses and the doctors

Your lover, the others, the waiting room, the gurney and the druggers
Your mother, your father, your brother, and the thing under the covers
Your lover, the others, the leeches, and the serpents and the suckers
Your mother, your father, the comas and the way the spirits hover
Your lover, the others, I thought I wasn't smart enough to suffer
Speaking pig latin
Kiss me goodnight(x3)
Dreaming white satin
Kiss me goodnight(x3)

Freedom--tying your legs down
Freedom--fucking your brains out
Freedom--blowing the candles out
Freedom--waving to the crowd

And I hate long goodbyes anyway
[Chinga]

"your father....covers"-that whole line is blatantly about sexual abuse. in fact the whole thing is.

Some of that is wrong....up till "gurneys and the druggers" is ok but then he changes the second half of each bit...FUCK knows what he's saying though...Thats the thing with Patton...sometimes he really does manage to hide what he's saying completely....

This is one of my favourites. It tells the story of a man in a coma, and how he can see everything and notices everyone and everything around him, but he eventually just fades off into the distance. The "long goodbye" is the coma.

I don't even understand where you came up with the sexual abuse thing. I honestly don't see it.

I thought Dillinger was bloody amazing With Greg as the vocalist in Miss Machine but i bought 'Irony is a dead scene' and fuck me, It's even better. The EP is insaaaane. Wish they coulda wrote more.

Well anyways, i'm gonna try to come up with some 'meaning' for these lyrics cause i'm fucking bored.

Sounds like it's about some dude who's In a hospital, with family around him, but names himself as 'the thing' under the covers as a sign of not having any self respect. But this bloke is a bit fucked up and insane, The blurting out of all these images, to do with family and the hospital environment shows this aided by the mad vocals. Anyways, 'your lover' frequently repeated so maybe that's whats fucked him up. The pig latin bit i reckon is about nobody being able to speak his language or understand him and him just talking a load of bollocks. anywhoo. This guy blabs on about freedom, and that's where i reckon he might of got into hospital cause of too much drug taking, basically fucking up his life. Because of his freedom to go down to the street corner and get some shit. Then he has to kiss his sorry ass goodbye.

So yeah probably talking utter crap but it kind of fits. Good song though. Someone reply, i'm bored

This song is about getting diagnosed with a terminal illness. One of those people who never did anything with their lives, just bided their time until something came along, and BAM! it was cancer. "I thought I wasn't smart enough to suffer". That's the reaction; You hear the term all the time but think "It will never hurt me". And just like that, it flips you on your ass. I know that, because this happened to me. Excetp when I went under they realized it was just a severe infection. But still, you can imagine how I felt when I read the opening lyrics, as they hit me in the chest like a crossbow. They explain in full detail what I went through. SO yeah, no sexual abuse. Just the realization that your life has been meaningless, until you get a disease.

That high-pitched word I hear in the chorus that Patton sings before 'your mother' etc. sounds like 'chinga' to me. 'Chinga' is Spanish for 'screw', and in that particular conjugation, Patton would be urging the listener to screw their mother, father and all the rest.

However, it's quite possible that I'm thinking that because Spanish developed from Latin, and those who see Latin as a superior language might consider Spanish to be 'pig Latin'.

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Cajun Girl

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
