Soon the clouds will cover the sky,
And soon the tears will cloud my eyes,
And when the clouds are gray
I need your smile to take this heartache away
I called your house but got the machine
So I sang songs you used to sing to make me happy
"You are my sunshine, My only sunshine
You make me smile when clouds are gray
And clouds are always gray these days now that you're gone

And now I've locked myself in this closet
With my old friend a bottle of cheap whiskey
I'll drink alone yeah, I'll get real drunk
And I'll forget your face by the morning

Yeah, so you went away
To drink the sunshine, Oh, with that guy
Yeah, you can dust off my heart
But you won't find your fingerprints there
So I'm drinking alone again tonight
Yeah, I'm drinking to keep warm
Yeah, I smoked a pack again tonight
Oh, I'm smoking to smile

(Chorus)

I called you up, but you're at his place
And I'm singing songs you used to sing to me
To make me smile, to make me laugh
To make my heartache stay away
"You are my sunshine, My only sunshine,
You make me smile when clouds are gray,
And it looks like another cloudy day,
And clouds are always gray these days.

(Chorus)

It's somewhat well written, but it seems like a Bright Eye's rip off.

'And now I've locked myself in this closet With my old friend a bottle of cheap whiskey I'll drink alone yeah, I'll get real drunk And I'll forget your face by the morning'

That sounds like the closing lines to 'It's Cool We Can Still Be Friends'.

'So I'm pouring some whiskey, I'm going to get drunk. Yeah, I'm pouring myself some whiskey, I'm going to get real fucking drunk. I'm pouring some whiskey right now, I'm going to get so so drunk, pass out, forget your face, by the time I wake up.'

Not only is this a rip off of "It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends", but it also sound like The Calendar Hung Itself..."

"I called your house but got the machine So I sang songs you used to sing to make me happy "You are my sunshine, My only sunshine You make me smile when clouds are gray"

    Sounds very much like:

"And I settled for a telephone Sang into your machine: "You are my sunshine My only sunshine You are my sunshine My only sunshine," "

    Plagiarism is very fucking original.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
