Do You Feel The Same Lyrics
Moon covered determined to find
To find my place of hiding
Try to detach, try to decrease
To make it easier on me
Despise myself for what you've done
Sent me back into my world
Hold yourself 'cause no one will
I'll make it easier
Now I have managed to be the one
To be the victim without the gun
Do you feel the same anyway
Now you've come
Do you feel the same anyway
Now you've come
Stay alert cause I'm obsessed
Surely I can't be depressed
Could I be read if I was see-through
Or would you just read my spine
Could I be read if I was see-through
Could I be read if I was see-through
Could I be read if I was see-through
Or would you just read my spine
Now I have managed to be the one
To be the victim without the gun
Do you feel the same anyway
Now you've come
Do you feel the same anyway
Feel the same
Now you've come
Do you feel the same anyway
Hold yourself 'cause no-one will
I'll be there to take the spill
Cleanse your soul, change the tide
And ride the wave back here to me
Be the one
Without the gun
Do you feel the same anyway
Now you've come
Do you feel the same anyway
Now you've come
Do you feel the same
Feel the same
Now you've come
Do you feel the same anyway
Now you've come
To find my place of hiding
Try to detach, try to decrease
To make it easier on me
Despise myself for what you've done
Sent me back into my world
Hold yourself 'cause no one will
I'll make it easier
Now I have managed to be the one
To be the victim without the gun
Do you feel the same anyway
Now you've come
Do you feel the same anyway
Now you've come
Surely I can't be depressed
Could I be read if I was see-through
Or would you just read my spine
Could I be read if I was see-through
Could I be read if I was see-through
Or would you just read my spine
To be the victim without the gun
Do you feel the same anyway
Now you've come
Do you feel the same anyway
Feel the same
Now you've come
Do you feel the same anyway
I'll be there to take the spill
Cleanse your soul, change the tide
And ride the wave back here to me
Without the gun
Do you feel the same anyway
Now you've come
Do you feel the same anyway
Now you've come
Do you feel the same
Feel the same
Now you've come
Do you feel the same anyway
Now you've come

"Never judge a book by its cover"
The book analogy is most likely correct. He's saying if the "cover" wasn't there ("if I was see-through"), could people get to know the real him ("Could I be read") or would they just make a quick judgment and move on ( "Or would you just read my spine"). Much like reading the spine of a book to find out its title/author and guessing what the book is about, without actually reading what's inside it.
It's about someone who hurt him. It doesn't necessarily have to be about love/relationship, just anyone who hurt him/eroded at his self esteem. Many believe that he's fine, but he can't be read ("read my spine" is a play on words IMO).
yeah i totally love this song.. and i love the guitar solo in it too. i love the lyrics.. i really like these lines "Stay alert cause I'm obsessed. Surely I can't be depressed" and "Hold yourself 'cause no-one will. I'll be there to take the spill. Cleanse your soul, change the tide. And ride the wave back here to me".. does anyone know what this song is about?
i think this song is about your lover not understanding you. it's a very sexual song i think, mostly becasue of the line, "Do you feel the same anyway, Now you've come?" Maybe I'm like perverted... but I think he's using come in a sexual way. I'm not sure though...
The first part (about trying to hide, detach, decrease) seems to be about Daniel wanting to disappear from the public eye and the scrutiny of the press. Hence his anorexia, which could have sprung partly from his desire to fade into the background.
This interpretation gains credence from the lyric, "now I have managed to be the one / to be the victim without the gun". By making himself sick and vulnerable, he has become a victim in the public eye without needing to actually kill himself.
He also seems to be accusing someone of triggering an emotional set-back - though he takes the blame for their actions upon himself ("despise myself for what you've done / sent me back into my world")
Others have already explained this part that goes, "could I be read if I was see-through / or would you just read my spine", which I agree is about people making superficial snap judgements about others, especially those in the public eye.
I think this song is Dan's way of asking a girlfriend (could also be a friend, fan etc) if she feels the same about him NOW that she actually KNOWS the real him, in all his imperfections.
great explenation. thanks

such a great song, i can't believe no one else commented on it!! i love the guitar solo in it...very sexy =)
i think this song is sexual. its like asking a one nite stand if they actually feel anything for you, or if you realised you've been used.
i really love the lyrics "Could I be read If i was see through Or would you just read my spine", but i can't really figure out what it's about.
i love this song because i love silverchair.. im their number one favorite fan.. go to my silverchair fan site at http://hometown.aol.com/david828m/page6.html!
I remember reading once in an interview with Daniel talking about this song. He said the chorus was writen longer. The could i be read if i was see through bit. It was something to do with how people thought they knew him just becase they had read a whole load of interviews.
