Turnpike Gates Lyrics

We would drag ourselves to bed
and sleep took everything i had
i kept it up till he would call
you made me feel like a criminal
and then there's you you kept a smile
though i would always walk the wire
you gave it all
i gave you reason to have doubt
i had to get out of there
i took the stairs
i don't wanna fight with you
if i can't be the one to have you
you sat that chair like a queen in the kitchen
i memorized the lines your eyes made at every squint you shot my way
but you're miserable
and i'm useless
always making up excuses
i made you cry
too many times
so i'm hanging up that line
i'm throwing rocks at your floor
i'm knocking down your front door
i'm desperate tonight
and i just wanna fight
it's my conclusion that lets me act so cold
so now i'll go
and you wanna be just left alone
put down that phone
'cuz if you want me just call out "hey boy."

It kinda seems like he's sleeping with a girl who is cheating on her boyfriend/husband. lyrics like:

"I don't want to fight with you if i can't be the one to have you"

and it seems like he has to leave the place fast, maybe he was just about to get caught:

"i had to get out of there, i took the stairs"

just a thought.

listening to this song now, I realize just how hard Taking Back Sunday and many other bands in the Long Island scene (Saves The Day etc.) have tried to emulate Lifetime. if you've ever heard anything by TBS, you'll know their efforts pretty much failed.

anyways, good song; i think it's just about being on and off with someone a lot, and ending up loving them so much that if they ever needed you, all they'd have to say would be "hey boy." and you'd be there.

p.s. does anyone know what the intro at the beginning is?

Pretty sure its more along the lines of what caprican said, not vulgar. "kept it up til he would call", hes basically there at her dispense cus he likes her and its not exactly as mutual and she's probably involved with someone else
