One, two, three, four...
Yeah!
You've been a juvenile
With a dolphin smile
With no elbow room
With your body in bloom
You've had your little backyard
Protected by big walls
You didn't dare look over
'Cause you've been too small
Now you're finally sixteen
And you're feelin' old
But they, they won't believe
That you got a soul no whoa no
'Cause your only sixteen
And you're feelin' real
But you, you can't seem to cop a feel no whoa no
Why do they have to force us
Through this metamorphose
Little butterfly
No matter how you try
You'll be segregated
You're gonna be closed off
You're callow and you're green
'Cause you're caught between
You're only sixteen
Try to cross the line
But your little wings are intertwined no whoa no
Yeah you're only sixteen
And you're such a tease
And there's nothing you do
That can really please no whoa no
"These children
They're not really bad most of them
They're just products
Of rotten neighborhoods
And bad family situations"
You know you can't forsake it
So sit back and take it
You see you're just not ripe
So don't try to fight that
You're only sixteen
You wanna catch a peek
But they, they look at you
Like you're such a freak no whoa no
Well you're only sixteen
With a lot to say
But they won't give you
The time of day no whoa no
Well you're only sixteen! (you're only sixteen)
Hey you're only sixteen!! (you're only sixteen)
Hey you're just sixteen!!! (you're only sixteen)
You poor little thing
With a dolphin smile
With no elbow room
With your body in bloom
You've had your little backyard
Protected by big walls
You didn't dare look over
'Cause you've been too small
And you're feelin' old
But they, they won't believe

gahd, this thing want me to sound like i have a stutter or somethin?? stupid computer.
(by the way, just heard this song wit tha music, and i have fallen in love with no doubt all over again)
this is a really good song to listen to when you're mad at your parents for whatever reason. I've become very fond of in just recently since I just turned 16. How ironic??? hehe!!!
I love how the plug the following lines in the middle of this song:
"These children They're not really bad most of them They're just products Of rotten neighborhoods And bad family situations"
That's great, very punk! :-)
i luv da lines in dis song about da little wings beind intertwined. it reminds me of fairies n den innocence n den sweet 16 yr olds n den... how 16s aint innocent n its ironic n dats da meenin of da whole song n its all verri cleaver n da bass n rhythm n gwens vocals n ... yes m8
This is a great product of old school No Doubt.. haha I wonder if they made this just to appeal to punkish 16 year olds because it really does get it right if you're 16 or around that age. It's a good song and it's just about growing up and being in the middle years.. not a child but not an adult. Good song. It really does get to how you feel like no one understands.. like being segragated, closed off.. and that little radio clip they insert in the middle about kids being the products of rock music and bad neighborhoods.
Hell yes, this song is awesome.
It's so true that at 16, you're trying to grow up, so you're "finally 16", yet at the same time you're still young, so you're "only 16". The time of conflict with maturation and/or lack thereof.
Lol to bubblelicious, who didn't understand the term "irony."
I love the way this song fades into "Sunday Morning", one of my favs.
