Hey You Lyrics

Hey you with the wedding dress on
Made of white chiffon blowing in the wind
Hey you with the dreams in your head
You've been so mislead by your heart's pull

I know you're waiting for your ship to come in
You anxiously wait for such a long time

You're just like my Ken and Barbie doll
You dress up, you play the game
You're just like my Ken and Barbie doll
Your name will never change
(Your name will never change)

Hey you with your eyes full of hope
You think you can rope your desire
Well hey you, you naive thing
Your patience in turn will tire

I know you're thinking that your tide will roll in
How did you ever get such high hopes?

You're just like my Ken and Barbie doll
You dress up, you play the game
You're just like my Ken and Barbie doll
Your name will never change
(Your name will never change)

You're just like my Ken and Barbie doll
In a plastic world of make believe
You're just like my Ken and Barbie doll
You know he's just gonna leave
(Gonna leave)

Hey you... hey you... hey you

I know you're waiting for your life to begin
Well wake up girl you've got it all wrong
You want a prize that you're not gonna win
Oh face it girl you've got it all wrong

You're just like my Ken and Barbie doll
You dress up, you play the game
Oh ou're just like my Ken and Barbie doll
Your name will never change
(Your name will never change)

Oh you're just like my Ken and Barbie doll
In a plastic world of make believe
You're just like my Ken and Barbie doll
You know he's just gonna leave

I think this song was about Gwen and Tony, and how she knew they were never going anywhere in life. She had hopes of a marriage and a family but she had to realize that Tony didn't. Like she said "Her name will never change" maybe reffering to her last name, like when u get married. lines like this make me think that::

''Hey you with the wedding dress on Made of white chiffon blowing in the wind Hey you with the dreams in your head You've been so mislead by your heart's pull''

''You anxiously wait for such a long time'' ''Your name will never change'' ''Well wake up girl you've got it all wrong''

I dont know, i could be way off....

i like this song! its kind of sad though. i think its about how a lot of girls wait around for guys, and this song is saying that hes never going to come around.

I think this is like the dream that an affluent prince will come and make the woman important leaves them waiting instead of getting out into the world

I think that this is about Gwen wanting to get married. I mean she says "your name will never change"

which is clearly traditional to change your last name when you get married.

The part when she goes "I know your waiting for your ship to come in" reminds me of something I learned in

my California History class when the young Spanish bride waited for her arranged law officer husband to

come into shore...hmmm

My Interpretation
Cover art for Hey You lyrics by No Doubt

I know this song is most likely about Gwen and Tony's relationship (most of Tragic Kingdom is exactly about that) but I feel like it very much applies to things that have happened in my family.

"You're just like my Ken and Barbie doll You dress up, you play the game You're just like my Ken and Barbie doll Your name will never change"

-This applies to how my parent's marriage was failing, yet they still pretended that everything was alright for a very long time, and how my mom's last name will "never change" from her married name.

"I know you're waiting for your life to begin Well wake up girl you've got it all wrong You want a prize that you're not gonna win Oh face it girl you've got it all wrong"

-This is basically what was going through my mind when I got older and saw everything that was going on. I became frustrated that they still had not tried to just flat out get a divorce, and had instead just been sitting around hoping things would get better and change.

Sounds like whoever this song is about is blinded by loyalty to their life and just doesn't have the nerve to get out there and REALLY live. :D   :)
