Move On Lyrics

Some chickens crossed the road, straying far from the hen
Five reached the side one step below Zen
One was a female, four were mad-men
Who moved on, moved on moved on
Joined hands and moved on

Standing in line and falling asleep
Building a fence while we're counting the sheep
We'd let you help out but our project's too deep
Move on, move on, move on
Stay awake, just move on

You have to understand that when it comes to making music
We meshed the styles of five alive and intertwined and fused it
Life comes from life and through our strife we strove to make the sound true
Compelled to spell it out (no doubt) in search of what we must do

Our house was too small so we had to move
The neighbors had much doubts so we had to prove
That our soulful dimensions were true to the groove
We, moved on, moved on, moved on
To our house in the middle of the street

Water the music, plant the seeds in the pot
Music's the life flowing through... is it not?
Don't forget your roots, but also don't rot
Move on, move on, move on
Plant the seeds ond move on

You have to understand that when it comes to making music
We meshed the styles of five alive and intertwined and fused it
Life comes from life and through our strife we strove to make the sound true
Compelled to spell it out (no doubt) in search of what we must do

Don't be afraid, let your feelings show
Wear your heart on your sleeve, and let yourself glow yeah
Don't be afraid, let your feelings show
Wear your heart on your sleeve, your heart on your sleeve
And let yourself glow yeah
Ooh yeah yeah yeah yeah...
Don't be afraid, let your feelings show
Let yourself glow yeah
Don't be afraid
Don't be afraid

This is the line for me that makes the song ironic in relation to what GS is doing now:

Life comes from life and through our strife we strove to make the sound true

That's exactly what No Doubt did, musically they were always moving forwards putting in some serious effort into the songs, lyrics, musicianship and arrangements. Gwen Stefani sold out when the image started coming before the sound. It's no longer musically true, it's musically BS

This has always been one of my favorites from their original ska era. Most of my other favorites are non-album tracks like "Soundquake." Oh, old school No Doubt. <3 They have stayed true to what they say in this song, "Don't forget your roots , but also don't rot." Push

Only one comment???? This is a song about the band. I always liked it, it captured the spirit of No Doubt, and has some great lines to quote.

Why did you sell out, Gwen? This song is so much better than Holla Back Girl, and I think she knows it.

I like this part of the song:

Water the music, plant the seeds in the pot Music's the life flowing through... is it not? Don't forget your roots, but also don't rot Move on, move on, move on Plant the seeds and move on

These lines seem to encourage an artist's musical growth and change. You don't want to forget your roots, but if you're never willing to try anything different you might "rot", or get stuck in a rut. You'll never develop and grow. If you look at it that way, maybe Gwen didn't really sell out as much as some of us think...

Not that I like her solo stuff, but still...

This song is awesome. The line "To our house in the middle of the street" was obviously taken from Madness' 1982 single "Our House" and it is well known that both Eric and Gwen Stefani were huge Madness fans. I'm surprised no one has brought this up yet.

I did research on band origin turns out that the band was formed by eric, gwen, and another kid named Josh Spence I believe. The band was named after his favorite phrase "no doubt". The kid though committed suicide before a concert at the Roxy Theatre. The band broke up for several months and decided to come back together. The song move on, and I believe they mention this in CD brochure, is about the death of the kid and is in memory of him. "Five reached the side one step below Zen " Meaning gwen, eric, tom, tony, and Adrian reached the goal, but not John. Then the song is called move on which part of it meaning moving on from the death of John, not forgetting him (roots of how band started) but not allowing his death to separate the band. "Don't be afraid, Let your feelings show Wear your heart on your sleeve, And let yourself glow, yeah " I believe this refers to just telling people to don't hold things inside and let your thoughts and feelings be heard. Don't hide who you are and don't fall for pressure and shine I love NO DOUBT and Gwen Stefani was awesome on her own they all were so I don't understand why people judge her for what she did. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO MOVE ON!! Awesome song though!!!!love it my fave from their first cd other thank sinking!
