Actually if you watch the Making of the Darkside of the Moon DVD David Gilmour Explains the meaning. After the sucess of DSOTM they were a platinum monster that made millions. Their goal wasn't money but that is what they had become. So they released "Wish You Were Here" because they weren't where they wanted to be.
