Counting Crows – Colorblind Lyrics 12 years ago
Interesting perspective... you're colorblind when born.

But I've always seen it like this:
Color blind because you can't see the many shades of life; you have a black and white thinking mindset. You see things as either all positive or all negative. Or It's about that lack of diversity and variation that makes an individual's life sustainable. One day you're pure one day you're the opposite. The world sees you the same way.
So being black and white or colorblind isn't about something that typically follows birth and will inevitably be outgrown. If it was about being colorblind at birth, which will definitely be outgrown; what's the point of the rest of the song and all the subsequent emotions poured into longing for things to change?

This person is ready to be pulled out from inside. Achieving that harmony between the external and internal. Finally to just not have the physical or external define him... Its hard to surmount the external or that which defines you. But there's hope in being able to identify that there's something else or more inside and acknowledging that you're ready for it to manifest. Takes the focus away from the extremities of your life and enables you to focus on the inbetween, the diverse, and the colorful.

Pete Francis – Untold Lyrics 12 years ago
Wait till a day when you're reminded of your own mortality in a very resonating sense. Then listen to this song keeping in mind you still have time no matter how salient the thought of death may be or how much you feel like you've just experienced it vicariously. You might feel the world's stagnant and dead depending on what you've just witnessed; but you remember there's life and a future just waiting. It's uplifting. Thats when you feel grateful and things start getting serious again.

The Kills – Baby Says Lyrics 12 years ago
I <3 this...one of the best by the kills. Blood pressures is amazing, all in all.
favorite lines:
"Baby says if ever you see skin as fair, or eyes as deep and as black as mine, I'll know you're lying"

"Baby says for all I've forsaken make something of all the noise and the mess you're making. And all the time's it's taken"

but most of all:
"Baby says there's death in these silver curls, that break up in jails, send you diving for pearls without a care in the world"

^ ingenious.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Snow (Hey Oh) Lyrics 12 years ago
I discovered this song on a cold winter day when there was no dirt you could see, just a thick blanket of snow covering the ground. The kind that covers all your tracks. It doesn't have the same effect now that its spring and the snow has melted. :P

I believe this song is about a fresh start; prying yourself away from things that comfort, but possibly isolate you.

"when I sit alone come get a little known but I need more than myself this time"
-you truly learn when you're around other people; not just yourself

"step from the road to the sea to the sky and I do believe that we rely on"
-our paths in life are a journey; we rely on so much to get us through this journey

"when will I know that I really can't go to the well once more time to decide on"
-the "well" could represent something that gives us comfort but also hurts us; or better yet, having justified access to that "well" that makes us feel better might be shaken by the changing dynamics in our lives. When do we realize it's no longer practical, useful, advantageous, or warranted given the unknown path we are really on and our unknown destination?
Again, the "well" could mean anything that makes us feel better (whether it be drugs, the thought of another person which gives comfort, etc.)

"when it's killing me when will I really see all that I need to look inside"
-that feeling of wanting to have what it takes to be self-sufficient. Specifically, wanting to SEE something(s) that allows you to truly look inside of yourself. Not having to resort to the well.

"come to believe that I better not leave before I get my chance to ride"
-I love this part. the two lines above (about the well and seeing all you need to look inside) gives an impression of wanting to be self-sufficient. Now its about knowing that you want to take this strength you wish to be able to derive from yourself, applying it, and not giving up before you get your own chance to live.

"Hey oh listen what I say oh Come back and Hey oh look at what I say oh"
-Investing in yourself, not focusing on the "well" so now YOU want to be listened to?

"The more I see the less I know the more I like to let it go"
-snow covers up your past tracks you made in the ground. The more snow there is, the less you remember or know about whats beneath it; the more you are inclined to let it all go. Snow can represent new things that steadily fall into place in your life; once built up, it becomes difficult to see whats beneath it, or your past ways.
OR... putting the concept of snow aside, the line above could just mean the more you see of whatever you need to "look inside" might make you know less and less about the well (through time) and whatever kind of (possibly redundant by now) comfort or support you might have derived from it

"Privately divided by a world so undecided and there’s nowhere to go"
-Privately divided: mentally/internally not outwardly having mixed feelings for a "world so undecided" which could represent the untouched snow; a fresh path that hasn't been stepped on. It's undecided yet.
nowhere to go: not obviously being pointed to any direction.
Snow: represents new things in ones life. New things that cover up old ways.

"When to descend to amend for a friend all the channels that have broken down"
-there's a fresh start ahead of you. On one hand you remember being so preoccupied and caught up with this well. But as new things come into your life, you let go of old ways. So now it comes to your attention all your connections with friends that have broken down when you were so preoccupied and not self-focused. When do you amend, catch up with, and rectify your life?

"Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed and there's nowhere to go"
-knowing that whatever you do now, your tracks will be covered up eventually.

Band of Skulls – Bruises Lyrics 12 years ago
I think the first four verses of this song is about giving (or wanting to give) more than, or what you do have (in effort?) and wanting something more from your life (understanding that you're understood) or possibly some drama instead (a little trouble in your neighborhood).

"something real, another feeling that you never feel, another reason that you wanna be alive just to watch the bruises heal"
-wanting to experience a feeling that you seldom or never feel; your motivation is that along the journey, you'll witness the bruises of your past heal through time/experience. Bruises can simply denote the pain that past experiences has inflicted on you, which limit you in some way.

This song is clearly about a relationship.

I love this part the most:

but in the end
know that you got nothin to lose..."

Bright Eyes – Easy/Lucky/Free Lyrics 12 years ago
The tone of this song sounds almost pessimistic. But SOME of the lyrics don't seem very. It's almost ironic. But all in all, what it makes me realize is how everyone will end up in the same place; some of us are relatively lucky if you can overlook this pivotal confinement. But the rest of the song makes it so hard to.

Our Lady Peace – Heavyweight Lyrics 12 years ago
OLP is back!!
I don't think this is necessarily a love song -that's not how I interpret it. It gives me more of a 'fighting for strength' sort of impression. The walls will inevitably crash; what holds you in place and gives you security now WILL fall; but right now we're fighting so we don't fall down with those walls. We don't want to be weightless when the most critical time of our life draws near.

I think it's "still alive who you love" ... the rest of the lyrics are completely wrong. I agree with SongMeanings2010
This is the song you listen to when you forget your past, memories, motivation, and aspirations. It's inspiring; reminds me how certain dynamics in my life have changed. Also reminds me to remember.

Bon Iver – Wash. Lyrics 12 years ago
One of my favorites! This song, along with so many other Bon Iver songs, need to be felt. I think interpretation of lyrics will always be to personalized and subjective because of the vagueness of some of the lyrics. But to add something new (I think), the second last verse seems to me to be talking about returning home after having grown immensely and having a different position in some way.

Bon Iver's songs are best served on a good winter day! They have really lived up to their name. :)

Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics 12 years ago
I think the first part of this song refers to growing up, maturing, and knowing how to discern between things that often fool us when we're young. When we're young we sometimes misconstrue the most straightforward signs in our lives. Someone smiles at us and we think its a veil. A beautiful blue sky doesn't seemingly have an obvious connection to pain; but these are the connections we sometimes mistakingly make mentally. Growing out of this mindset is a sign of maturation or growth.

As for the second part of this song... it's like looking up to or at a person who is now in a different position. Trading "hot ashes for trees" and "hot air for a cool breeze" can be interpreted again as maturing, getting more in sync with the world as opposed to your own selfishness. Trading "cold comfort for change" is letting go of that which we are comfortable with/in (but nonetheless hurts us) in exchange for something new.
This is the best part:
"Did you exchange a walk on part in the war, for a lead role in a cage"
- to me this alludes to giving up your collective identity for "a lead role in a cage" or, attaining a high/different/unique/individualized/differentiated position (but possibly living in it in solitude).

Literally, "how I wish you were here" would mean the narrator wants that other person to be where the narrator now is.
But given my interpretation of the first two verses, I'd like to (and am inclined to) think "how I wish you were here" is merely pointing out that the narrator would both him and the other person to be in the same place (probably not physically). Moreover, to be as accurate as I can get, that line can be taken as simply being a feeling of 'longing to be...'
"two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, running over the same old ground... same old fears..." --just makes it known the similarity and connection between these two souls... how they're invariably tied together, thus, making it understood that "wishing you were here" isn't too far-fetched since they're already connected in some ways.

I think the cover art, a man on fire shaking hands with a man that's not on fire perfectly symbolizes this song.

I get the feeling that I'm overanalyzing -but I wouldn't have been able to make this interpretation had I not happened to think about something thats going on in my life while listening to it.

The Rolling Stones – Gimme Shelter Lyrics 12 years ago
One of the best songs ever! I think the need for shelter represents a vulnerability. Sort of like teetering between two opposite and paradoxical states. But in the stark contrast between war being "just a shot away" and love being "just a kiss away," there's a powerful realization that makes deciding on where you'd like to stand so much easier.

That was my personal take on it. But I think most would agree that the need for shelter probably refers to just wanting protection from some of the spiralling atrocious acts that take place in the world..

Coldplay – See You Soon Lyrics 12 years ago
I may not be taking all aspects of this song into consideration, but collectively, this song to me is about some sort of long-distance relationship. After saying goodbye, that feeling of having a long journey ahead of you while all you know is you want to get back to that someone, or something in the future. So you don't know what the future will entail but keeping in mind your motivation to get back, all you know is you'll try your best and be strong.

"In a bullet proof vest, with the windows all closed
I'll be doing my best
I'll see you soon"
