This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart

Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. Michael Jackson is my hero, idol, and inspiration. He said once in an interview that this song was about him and his brothers' experiences with so-called "groupies" on the road on tour. He says Billie Jean is not one specific girl but just generally about all the girls who claimed their kid belonged to one of the Jackson boys.
okay, there are a LOT of disputes regarding whether MJ was gay or not, a good artist or not, etc. but what does the song mean, exactly?
It's simple the man slept with Billy Jean. He tells his current girl he was never with the other chick, that the child is someone else's. In the end the mother of the child shows up tells his girlfriend what really happened and he can't depute because the baby looks like him. He played around regardless of what his mother had told him and he got caught up like she said he would.
My interpretation was that he was associated with Billie Jean, and then she claimed there was more to than there actually was
@chi-chi I could see that if it weren't for the line about his girl crying because the child's eye's were his. That denotes the child had his features. I take the "danced the floor..." lyrics as euphemism them fooling around. That's also why he's saying the line about advising ppl to thing twice about what they do. So while she wasn't actually a lover they messed around at least once
