Hush Lyrics

Fuck You!

I can't say what I want to,
Even if I'm not serious.
I can't say what I want to,
Even if I'm not serious.

Things like
"Fuck yourself.
Fuck yourself.
You piece of shit.
Why don't you just go
Kill yourself?"

I said
I can't say what I want to,
Even if I'm not serious.
I can't say what I want to,
Even if I'm just kidding.

People tell me what to say,
What to think,
And what to play.
I said
People tell me what to say,
What to think,
And what to play.

I say

"Fuck yourself.
Fuck yourself.
You piece of shit.
Why don't you just go
Kill yourself?"

I can't say what I want to,
Even if I'm not serious.
I can't say what I want to,
Even if I'm just kidding.

Fuck yourself
Fuck yourself
You piece of shit
Why don't you go
Fuck yourself?

People tell me what to say,
What to think,
And what to play.
I said
People tell me what to say,
What to think,
And what to play.

Just kidding.
Just kidding.
Just kidding.

so i had to do a analysis of a song for english class in school, i did an analysis of this song. I got suspended for it not being "school appropriate." I just thought of the irony :)

it struck me that most people have overlooked the last three lines. i see it as,... people wanna hear that bands arent allowed to say what they want, cus its rebelious and all that. but thats not really what tool are about. does no-one else see that maybe the line "just kidding" had more meaning to it than it at first seems. because at the end of the day, if the record company didnt want it then it wouldnt be produced. maynard knows that he cant do what he wants... on the surface at least. and if this is right, then it seems to have worked on everybody

This song is protesting censorship. You can hear the rage in Maynard's voice. Tool hates it, and I totally don't blame them. BTW, the music video is AWESOME. Check it out.

Haha I bet eminem would like this song. I wonder if he listens to Tool? We may never know.... -Spiral Out-

Maybe its a heresy saying that but this probably sounds cool on eminems voice, haha

I like this song cause it protests one of the things that has always pissed me off about the press. People are all so paranoid that what kids are exposed to, thinking it's what si making kids violent. Maynard is basically saying "F*ck you guys if you think you're gonna make me change how I do things cause you can't let the blame fall on the idiot who did the dumb deed to begin with where it belongs."

its about their anger against censorship thus explaining i cant say what i want to and the parental content tags on their genitalia.

i see this song two ways. one is that its a passive aggressive song about censorship the second and more likely given tools other songs is that it is talking about how we are molded to avoid our "shadow selves" (see carl jung). As children we are taught and society reinforces certain taboos and beliefs. even joking about these taboos is considered odd behavior and forces that side of us into the shadowich . facing and accepting these thoughts and feelings as part of us is key to growth. he is being himself and saying he is not going to do what society says because just because its taboo. he instead embraces that side and shows some passive agressivness by saying something offensive. the irony i think is he is just kidding and hes not being sarcastic. the point is to show others that being uncomfortable about just the words not the intent is ridiculous. for example i could say i don't like so and so and in my heart want to kill them but thats socially acceptable to actually not like someone or even hate someone but oddly enough people are more put off by a joke or humor that is in "bad taste".

It's great! I don't know what else to say. Sounds like frustration at record companies and countless other organizations/individual saying, "you can't say that" or "that can't go on the album."

Ironically enough, they got this on an album (although Opiate was barely an album, and their first at that).

Makes me think of people blaming violence on music...you get accusations like "Marilyn Manson is responsible for the Columbine incident."

this is thought to be about blackmail, but it is actually about media censorship.

how could you call opaite "hardly an album". it was a good album, and personally i think has better songs on it than undertow. except sober of course.
