Just A Toy Lyrics

Look at my mouth, a thin painted line
Look at my limbs, bent up and bundled in twine
Forever, ever mine
Form of a tree, shape of a child
I wish I could cry, stuck in a permanent smile
Forever, ever mine

I know you must have loved me sometime
But now I'm just a toy
I know you must have loved me sometime

First there was me, nothing but time
Till he came along, you told me you'd always be mine
Forever, ever mine
Look at his face, somewhat like mine
But look at his nose, you can always be sure he's lying
Forever, ever mine

I know you must have loved me sometime
But now I'm just a toy
I know you must have loved me sometime
But now I'm just a toy

Who needs you
A boy-to-be who
Needs to be

Better than him, worthy of you
Given the chance that he had, I know what I'd do
Forever, ever mine
I call him liar, you call him son
If I could move, I'd set him on fire and I'd run
Forever and forever

I know you must have loved me sometime
But now I'm just a toy
I know you must have loved me sometime
But now I'm just a toy

It's about Pinocchio, from the perspective of another of Geppetto's puppets that wasn't chosen to be "brought to life". He thinks it's unfair that Pinocchio was given this amazing chance and is completely blowing it. and he thinks he would have been a much better choice for this gift.

Caffeen is right. BNL revealed in their podcast that the Pinocchio story was the inspiration for this song. I'm sure many people can relate it to their own relationships with parents who showered attention on other siblings, but we've got Geppetto to thank for this masterpiece.

Cafeen is pretty much right, basically this is the story: Gepetto was making a doll, pouring all of his love, and all of his effort into it, telling it "One day youll be a real boy!" and things like that. Then one day, he forgot about it. The doll was left on a shelf, collecting dust, completely forgotten by Gepetto. Then Gepetto started working on a new doll (Pinocchio), and the old forgotten doll is forced to sit on the shelf and watch Gepetto tell Pinocchio everything he told the old doll. Becuase the old doll is not a real boy, it can't move, and is forced to watch Gepetto work, all day, and remember what it was like before. This song is just about the inner thoughts of this old, forgotten doll.

This is probably my favourite bnl song ever, its just so good.
