Hanging on
Here until I'm gone
Right where I belong
Just hanging on

Even though
Watched you come and go
How was I to know
You'd steal the show

One day I'll have enough to gamble
I'll wait to hear your final call
Bet it all

Hanging on
Here until I'm gone
Right where I belong
Just hanging on

Even though
I pass this time alone
Somewhere so unknown
It heals the soul

You ask for walls
I'll build them higher
We'll lie in shadows of them all
I'd stand but they're much too tall
And I fall

February stars
Floating in the dark
Temporary scars
February stars

February stars
Floating in the dark
Temporary scars
February stars

February stars
Floating in the dark
Temporary scars
February stars

With this song, I picture a person in the middle of field in the middle of no where laying on the hood of their car all alone staring up at the stars on a cold and clear February night. They are reflecting on a close friendship with someone over time where they developed romantic feelings for the other person that were not reciprocated:

"hanging on here until I'm gone I'm right where I belong just hanging on even know I watched you come and go how was I to know you'd steal the show?"

In this verse what is being said is "we have been good friends forever, I have developed feelings beyond just friendship".

"one day I'll have enough to gamble I'll wait to hear your final call and bet it all"

Here he is waiting to build up enough courage to tell her how he feels and see if she feels the same way. Bet is all is a reference to the value of their friendship and his feelings. He could ruin both by telling her.

"I'm hanging on here until I'm gone right where I belong just hanging on even know I pass this time alone somewhere so unknown it heals the soul"

This really paints a picture of someone just staring into the sky reflecting on their feelings. "Hanging on" represents time passing, day by day, week by week, month by month.

"you ask for walls I'll build them higher we'll lie in the shadows of them all I'd stand but they're much to tall and I fall"

Here walls represent the boundaries of friendship. He builds these walls higher as he enjoys their friendship and spending time with her, but he has built the walls so tall he will never be able to get over them to something more than friendship, so he gives up and and comes to accept that friendship is the only thing this relationship will ever be.

"February stars Floating in the dark Temporary scars February stars..."

The final words and instrumentals of this song really represent the bittersweet feelings one can have when they come to a moment of truth. In this case it is that their friendship will always be something special, but it will only be a friendship. Now, all alone in a field in the middle of no where, a man lays staring at the stars and the blackness of space and comes to terms with his feelings.

Like a lot of the other comments are saying, I think this mainly about voyeurism. If the song was about his girlfriend, then why would he use the word spy. If you are a spy it means you shouldn't be caught, that is kind of the whole point, and if you are a voyeur, the whole point of the pleasure you get from it, is the fact that the other people don't know you are watching them. See a bit of a connection there?

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"
