Bridges Lyrics

The furrowed bed of sand worries again
As it had before, waves left the land.
For the falling leaves the child weeping alone,
He's letting go of the anchor and all the lines...

(Chorus)
Waiting for the fingers of the grey wave
Or his mother's hand to roll over him
With endless water...10,000 bridges
Show me father.

Now I'm older, now much older
And this wake can take me out to sea.
I feel the pull beneath my feet
I can see her, she is calling me
I can feel her there...I can feel her there.

(Chorus) [3x]

a child growing up through the years. 10,000 bridges, heh, the large amount of shit we go thru in life (excuse my language). grey wave? aging. first part, his mother? died while he was young? so it is just he and his father? now when he is MUCH older, it is almost his time and he can hear the calling of his mother, on the other side. hmmmm, just my first impression of this song.

to me it seemed like he lost both his parents not his just his mother

this is a really beautiful song. i think it is more open ended... and cant really be placed with a litteral meaning as much as it is left to your own interpretation.

i definitely agree that this song could mean a lot of things but to me, it screams suicide. does anybody else see that?

I agree, I think this song is about the child losing both parents. Great song, and lyrics that are, of course (I mean it's dispatch, c'mon), well written.

Sometimes it seems like everything is so hard, and takes so much time. its not hard to feel death calling, or the waves redy to sweep you out so you dont' have to deal with anything again. I don't think the childs parents died, those references are metaphorical. he wants a soft motherly hand to sooth him, and he wants his father to show him how to do things, and maybe neither of his actual parents are willing to do that for him. as a child something happened thats happened tons of times before, but he almost gave up, willing to let life just do whatever it wants wiht him. and now he's older, and feeling that drifting through life is almost worse than oblivion.

i agree a lot with corriebird... The song is about someone who isn't satisfied with his life; he still needs mothers hand to soothe and fathers guidence. The "10000 Bridges (strengh in numbers)" is telling of how it is ok to let others help you... dispatch keeps showing genius in songwriting don't they. the words are not only meaningful, but beautiful...

I do think that at least his mother died. As he feels his death calling to him as "he feels the pull beneath his feet" he hears "her" calling him from the other side. Also the child is left weeping alone. I think that the bridges do mean the many challenges one must face in life. It could be suicide, but I think that its just him acknowledging that his time has come, and he is ready to surrender himself to the waves/death.
