To me this song is about someone who has lost faith in ever finding someone who will accept & love them as they are. No matter what their flaws may be or if they have health issues, mental illness or whatever else, they believe no one will love them fully or completely as they truly are. They have lost so much faith in fact that they have turned to drugs perhaps & even lost faith in God. The song is a plea to anyone who's ever experienced that type of low to not lose faith, it also is a plea to those to not judge others who are currently at such a low point in their lives.
I think this one is pretty self explainitory. Seal is questioning why we dream about things that we can't understand.
@nullcherri I kindly add that he refers to wanting things, or lovers, in life that we can Never have/reach...Therefore, it is a self-induced pity, resorting to heroin...Because Seal himself has lost a couple of dear frineds/lovers to smack.

Excluding some songs on Human Being, this is the most beautiful song Seal has made.
I believe the whole album is about a mans journey in a relationship with one he loves, with the drug references of love being a drug. This song is about the hardships all close friendships face.
@Tgogators True: allow me pls to kindly add that the drug addiction comes as the escapade--as in mme bovary--once we lose that lover. The real message is to be true in relations; never ever projecting a wrong self-image on others, since it will not last, destroying the love that was built on a lie!
