The Unbeliever Lyrics

When you start to take a look within
Do you feel ease with what you see
Do you think you can have peace of mind
And have self-believe or be satisfied

Do you think you even like yourself
Or really think you could be someone else
Is there something that you'd rather be
Never thought you'd be, had the chance to see

All my life I've run away
All my life I've tried to hide away

Feel the paranoia creeping in
Like a cancer eating at the skin
Do you feel you've lost your self esteem
And your self respect, what can you expect

All my life I've run away
All my life I've tried to hide away

All my life ... I've run astray
Let my faith ... slip away
All my life ... I've run astray
Allowed my faith ... to drift away

Are you scared to look inside your mind
Are worried just at what you'll find
Do you really want to face the truth
Does it matter now, what have you got to lose

Try realease the anger from within
Forgive yourself a few immortal sins
Do you really care what people think
Are you strong enough to release the guilt

All my life I've run away
All my life I've tried to hide away

All my life ... I've run astray
Let my faith ... slip away
All my life ... I've run astray
Allowed my faith ... to drift away

Escaping faith/religion, perhaps? Seems everyone else (SM users) are busy flooding "Number of the Beast".

Seems more likely that it is actually about finding religion after a life of keeping it away... unfortunatly

Underrated song of the century. I don't get the Blaze hatred. This song alone is proof that he is worthy of Iron Maiden.

Ugh, this song is not worth 8 minutes. It's alright, but too long and repetitive

Cover art for The Unbeliever lyrics by Iron Maiden

its not necessarily religion I say but rather when we fool ourselves by trying to tell ourselves that we are something that we are not and try to be something we are not. When we look inside and examine our lives and diagnose the root cause of our actions (fakeness) sometimes we are not ready to handle what we find deep inside our souls. but in the words of Socrates, "the unexamined life is not worth living"
