its not necessarily religion I say but rather when we fool ourselves by trying to tell ourselves that we are something that we are not and try to be something we are not. When we look inside and examine our lives and diagnose the root cause of our actions (fakeness) sometimes we are not ready to handle what we find deep inside our souls. but in the words of Socrates, "the unexamined life is not worth living"
