Eclipse Lyrics

As we dwell inside the safe zones that we've made
Where nothing but earthly pleasures seem to matter
The only light we see is from the screens
No will to feel or explore the forgotten dimensions

But some day we'll catch a glimpse of eternity
As the world stands still, for a moment
And I guess we will be making history
When we all join hands just to watch the sky
(For a moment...)

Our selfish lives have made us all go blind
But one day we'll awake by a bright light on the horizon
In one second every eye will see the same
And this blinding light will draw all our attention

But some day we'll catch a glimpse of eternity
As the world stands still, for a moment
And I guess we will be making history
When we all join hands just to watch the sky (For a moment...)

But some day we'll catch a glimpse of eternity
As the world stands still, for a moment
And I guess we will be making history
When we all join hands just to watch the sky
And some day we'll catch a glimpse of eternity
As the world stands still, for a moment
For the veby first time and it's meant to be
We'll forget about ourselves and share the moment
(For a moment...)

One of the great songs about first contact with an alien civilization (and, yes, there are others). What will it be like? This takes a huge page from "Childhood's End" by Arthur C. Clarke.

I never really made the connection that this could be about Aliens, even thought the single cover has a UFO on it.

To me, this is about how every hate, love, problem, Pleasure, Discrimination and difference between us all is put aside as the whole world amides an eclipse. You may hate everything about the person standing next to you, Their beliefs, Their ideas, their way of life, but in the presence of such an amazing wonder of the universe, it really doesn't matter in the slightest, Its about unity.

When i saw it live, everybody in the room must have been feeling the same way. Not a single person had their hands by their side. they were either held at arms reach, embracing the moment, or Holding together with the person next to them, Who they had not met prior to the gig. Truly amazing.

My Interpretation

How many of us sit in our homes and accept what we're fed by our televisions?

Barring the long explaination - I think that this song is about a massive reawakening that will eventually take place. The song talks about our safe zones, how we hide inside of these, etc. That we dont explore these forgotten dimensions - that is, our emotional connection to others. And then the song says that one day we'll catch a glimpse of eternity, where the world stands still. Meaning that our eyes will open, and a historic event will happen. Something of such magnitude that it unites the people in watching the skies. Perhaps its my own sense of morbidity, but I think that this bright light on the horizon, which draws the attention of every person, is an atomic blast, or a meteor strike - Some massive apocalyptic event. And that event will unite us in a sense of common humanity, where we'll see things clearly, where we forget about our petty squabbles and think of things on a universal scale, at least for a moment.

LSD maby?? this certainly sounds like some of the deep concepts i have delt with on a hard Sandoz trip. This song is the definition of Psychedellic ego loss...thats what it means to me. "cosmic conciousness" is a common concept among daytrippers, and the connection to ego loss is here too, since in the levels of satori (levels of enlightenment, or human energy) particularly +12 mentions many cosmic connections. plus i have personally had a +12 trip, and it is just like this

plus, it contains that insanly deep introspective taste only pure sandoz can leave in your mouth. it talks about gaining the will to explore other dimensions, which i beleive means rooms of conciousness, or eneergy levels.

Does anyone know whether the sampled audio clips are genuine or not? If they are real, do you know where they come from?

They are definitely genuine. They are from a 1994 phone conversation between the Ottawa County, Michigan 911 dispatch and the Weather Service in Muskegon, Muskegon County, Michigan.

So what you hear after the phone ring is "Weather Service Muskegon"

In 1999, when the song was wrotten, there was a big eclipse of the sun. But also Nostradamus said that in 1999 ''the big king gonna go down from they sky'' or like that. Some people saw in this premonition UFO, some a big meteor, which gonna destroy our world. But mainly I'm gonna think, that STP meant aliens- that thay gonna make out maybe, people are so blind, ignoring possibility that we're not the only one in Space. And then will come the day, when with fear we gonna look at the flying saucers at the sky, holding with our hands, because we gonna feel that we all are humans and there are no borders between us...But why Eclipse? Maybe he first wrote music and gave a title ''Eclipse'', because he was thinking about the Sun Eclipse, but later he wrote this text about aliens and connected with Eclipse, because they fitted together. Or it's that , than humanity have...eclipse of minds :D

Song Meaning

I'm not religious in any way. I don't even believe in aliens, and the idea that anyone could believe in stuff like that actually disturbs me. Ever see a crazy person talking to themself on the street? Yeah, I get that feeling every time i hear someone talk about Jesus or Roswell... Or when I listen to the lyrics that I'm singing along to from this song!

Basically he says that one day we'll be unified under a bright light in the sky, with all of our selfish desires gone. To me this just rings "Jesus will return and you will all be saved" I'll still sing along to it though. It's a great song. I just think the whole value-pushing is a little gross.
