Lullabye Lyrics

goodnight, goodnight sweet baby
the world has more for you
than it seems
goodnight, goodnight
let the moonlight take the lid off your dreams

we took a small flight
in the middle of the night
from one tiny place to another
and my parents they remained
at the shack with lorraine
and my aunt and my grandpa and brother
we walked past the tarmac
and boarded the craft
the rain had me chilled to the bones
just the three of us took flight that night,
uncle richard, me and james earl jones

and the pilot he gave me a blanket
while the tall dark man sang to me in deep
rich tones...

goodnight, goodnight sweet baby
the world has more for you
than it seems
goodnight, goodnight
let the moonlight take the lid off your dreams

i don't know if this is what it really means, but i kinda thought that its just a lullabye that says to dream whatever dreams you want, because anything can happen in your dreams. i dunno tho

this is my all time favorite BFF song in the whole wide world, i think it influences people to do what they want and to not listen to the few that might try and tell them what to do with their lives, very transcendentalist of them!! :)

the first part is wonderful.. my sister is going to sing it to her children if she has some :)

I love how the piano music sounds almost gospel-like with some jazz in it.

I always thought this song was a euphemism for someone dying. (the sleeping representing death..) It seemed as if the second stanza (scene with flying in the airplane).. described him and part of his family flying out to go to the funeral.

Maybe?

ahh i love ben folds, dont you?

i think the lyrics are just describing something that might happen in a dream.. i know I have dreams that don't make any sense all the time

It seems to me that being on the plane with James Earl Jones is like a dream sequence almost - After "goodnight goodnigt, sweet baby" whoever 'sweet baby' is has fallen asleep and he is singing what she is dreaming about.

i always thought it was a dream sequence just because of how random the song seems, but deep down, i think the song is about simply falling asleep and dreaming or if you want to be a little less simplistic, it's about going to a place that makes you happy and this lullabye, transports you there.
