Fingerprints and Photographs Lyrics
I'm looking at you through a wine glass
I'm watching the light play games with your face
I'm tracing your mouth with my fingers
I'm trying to pick up your taste
Will you dance for me?
Two more drinks and I'll forget everything
I can't remember your face by the time I get home
You're a photograph in an album
Peeling plastic, yellowed pages
Tainted by so many fingerprints
I need to remember this
I need you to dance for me
dance for me
dance for me
dance for me
Because I won't remember this in the morning
Two more drinks and I'll forget everything
I can't remember your face by the time I get home
Will you dance for me?
I'm watching the light play games with your face
I'm tracing your mouth with my fingers
I'm trying to pick up your taste
I can't remember your face by the time I get home
You're a photograph in an album
Peeling plastic, yellowed pages
Tainted by so many fingerprints
I need to remember this
dance for me
dance for me
dance for me
I can't remember your face by the time I get home

this song is so upsetting....the guy is drunk off his ass, and hes just telling this girl that everything that happens he wont remember and doesnt really care...if i were the girl i'd jet...but then again, kevin puts it so sweetly that you melt just by him saying that hes drunk out of his mind and drinking more...
Kevin Devine is an amzing song writer and artist, this song only proves it.
kerixberi;
i beg to differ. i like to think this song is about him sitting around flipping through memories, such as photographs and drowning it all in some drinks. he's singing to this gal about a feeling he's having at this moment which will be forgotten in the morning, and he wants to keep it, remember it.
This song is about another girl he is with on a date/dinner. This song is about Kevin remembering a lost love. Going through pictures and memories of some one he lost who meant a great deal to him...He is depressed and drinking while remembering a love he lost. It's a lost love from a longer time in which he remembers parts of the girls, but the sad relization that he is forgetting her, and getting over her, which makes him upset.
i think "jeffgunzmu" nailed it.
i thought of one thing that could somewhat support "jeffgunzmu". you see in some movies (cant think of any specific ones) a scene that when the main character (or any character) loses his wife or girlfriend, he imagines them two dancing. those "can/will you dance for me?" lines reminded me of that in movies. so...yeah that kinda goes with jeff's explaination of the loved-passed away one.
