Batdance Lyrics

"Oh, I got a live one here!"
Get the funk up!
BATMAN
Get the funk up!
BATMAN
Get the funk up!
"Go, go, go with a smile!"
BATDANCE
Do it
Keep bustin'

["do it" repeated in the background]
I've seen the future and it will be
I've seen the future and it will be
BATMAN, BATMAN
I've seen the future and it will be
BATMAN (house, do it, house)
"And where, and where ... is the BATMAN?"

Do it, do it
let's do it, let's do it
Do it, do it, do it, do it

"Stop the press..."
"Stop the press, who is that?"
"Vicky Vale", "Vicky Vale"
"I like..."
BATMAN, BATMAN, BATMAN
"Oh - that's nice"
"Hi, Bruce Wayne"
"I've tried to avoid all this, but I can't"
"I just gotta know... are we gonna try 2 love each other?"
"Stop the press - who is that?"
"Vicky Vale"
"She's great, isn't she?"

Ooh yeah, ooh yeah
I wanna bust that body
Ooh yeah, ooh yeah
I wanna bust that body right
"I'd like 2"
Ooh yeah, ooh yeah
"But he's out there right now"
I wanna bust that body
Ooh yeah, ooh yeah 2 night

"Well, miss Vale"
"Ever dance with the devil in the pale moon light?"
"I always ask that of all my pray."
"I just like the sound of it."
(screams)

"I've got 2 go 2 work"
BATMAN
"I've got 2 go 2 work"
BATMAN
If a man is considered guilty
WORK!
4 what goes on in his mind
WORK!
Then gimme the electric chair
WORK!
4 all my future crimes-OH
WORK!
Electric chair

Hey Ducky, let me stick the 7-inch
In the computer
HA, HA, HA
Hey, we got the power
Oh, we got the soul
Hey, we got to sho'nuff get off
2 make the devil go, go

"This town needs an enema!"

"I'm gonna kill U"
POWER
"I'm not gonna kill U"
SOUL
"I'm gonna kill U"
POWER
"I'm not gonna kill U"
SOUL

No, damn it! Turn the music back up!
You son of a bitch!

"Have you ever heard of the healing power of laughter?"

Who's gonna stop 200 balloons?
Nobody!
Batman

Sadly, Prince signed a deal with Youtube in 2007 for them not to display any of his music videos- His worst mistake since he changed his name to a sign!

i LOVE this hokey, goofy thing, because it was my jazz class's song my junior year of high school. we did this awesome routine, complete with catsuits, a cape for wings and a cowl for the head. crazy awesome shit.

There is no true meaning to this song; It's just numerous quotes taken from the movie, "Batman" (The 'Michael Keaton' version; Not the recent one), along with reprised lyrics from the first 2 songs on the soundtrack album. However, my favorite part of this song is Prince's guitar solo, right before the tempo slows down in the middle.

This is such an unusual piece of music, and a great introduction to Prince (it was my first ever record)!

The story goes that apparently Tim Burton wasn't happy with the music Prince was making for the film and kept sending the tapes back to him saying "change this and this and that" or just straight up rejecting the songs altogether. The resulting official theme to the film, is a hastily assembled mash-up of all several different parts of songs that were to form a kind of trilogy. Prince was so annoyed by Burton's demands that instead of trying to re-record everything yet again, he just tacked all the bits together from the various attempts to make the official theme song and removed nearly all of the vocal parts. Initially it wasn't supposed to contain so many samples from the film, but there was no vocal until over half way through the song, so as a compromise Prince allowed Burton to flesh it out with the samples. "200 Balloons" was a pre-"Batdance" completed track, originally intended as the official lead track to the score, but Burton again changed his mind at the 11th hour and asked Prince to change it, saying it wasn't 'epic' enough. Most of that track ended up in "Batdance" and the 'epic' bit Prince took to mean just play a wild funky guitar solo all over it! The result is amazing I think, the guitar is super-fresh and makes me wanna leap on furniture, the samples are spot-on and the sort of crazy medley approach keeps it interesting all the way through.

It's a real one-off, this track. If Burton and Prince had've had a friendly working partnership, "Batdance" would have been so different. I love that it came about because of ongoing disagreements and Prince's clear annoyance at Burton for being so stubborn.

This is interesting! Thanks for this! I always thought this was a weird song, even by Prince's standards (though I like it), and I knew there must be some kind of story behind it. It amazes me to think this was played on the radio constantly in 1989. It's so unusual:)

I see that "Batdance" went all the way to Number One on the weekly Hot 100. Is anyone else than me very puzzled about that fact? I'm the kind of music listener who likes practically every song that I hear, but I cannot begin to understand how on earth "Batdance" ever got anywhere close to Number One. I think it's one of the worst songs I've ever heard in my life. That might be the first time I've ever said that about a song, but that negative evaluation does seem to fit this song. And usually I like Prince's songs.
