Deadlock Lyrics

When we fool didn’t know how build the new room
You could choose too along the sunshine.
But then the smile and then the reefs just for chess and me,
Now you fools stand happy in the pan.
When the smile and tender leaves just for chess and me,
Now you fools must stand in the pan.
When we fool didn’t know how build the new room
You could choose too along the sunshine.

This is what I hear:

When we fool didn’t know about the new room You fools stood alone in the sunshine With tender smile up and the wreaths just for chasing them Now you fools stand happy in the pain When the smile of tenderness just for chasing them Now you fools must stand in the pain When we fool didn’t know about a new room You fools stood alone in the sunshine

...but I'm not not at all sure about some of it. I know 'chasing them' and 'pain' is a bit dodgy, but the only alternatives seem to be 'pan' and 'pen'. Perhaps someone who has Japanese as first language can help.

@tomalder : transcribing Damo Suzuki! I admire the effort. In many instances, you can't do much better than guess.

It's sorta like trying the same with Michael Stipe circa Murmur (the first full-length LP by R.E.M.) Often they don't "make sense," not to mere mortals. So what's more difficult to decipher? The language/culture barrier, or an even-more deliberate intention to be obscure and non-linear?

Most of the time I prefer to think of their voices as abstract sound. However it's difficult to "turn off" the mind's attempt to wring actual words from the material.
