She don't like her eggs all runny
She thinks crossin' her legs is funny
She looks down her nose at money
She gets it on like the Easter Bunny
She's my baby I'm her honey
I'm never gonna let her go

He ain't got laid in a month of Sundays
I caught him once and he was sniffin' my undies
He ain't too sharp but he gets things done
Drinks his beer like it's oxygen
He's my baby
And I'm his honey
Never gonna let him go

In spite of ourselves
We'll end up a'sittin' on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize
We're gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.

She thinks all my jokes are corny
Convict movies make her horny
She likes ketchup on her scrambled eggs
Swears like a sailor when shaves her legs
She takes a lickin'
And keeps on tickin'
I'm never gonna let her go.

He's got more balls than a big brass monkey
He's a wacked out werido and a lovebug junkie
Sly as a fox and crazy as a loon
Payday comes and he's howlin' at the moon
He's my baby I don't mean maybe
Never gonna let him go

In spite of ourselves
We'll end up a'sittin' on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize
We're gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.

(spoken) In spite of ourselves

haha, what a funny song. i really love some of the simple one liners that say everything. case in point: "convict movies make her horny" it seems so silly and irreverant but doesnt it give jsut the perfect mental image of this woman?

This is like a country version of "Anyone Else But You" by The Moldy Peaches. I love both of them. They're just expressing their love for eachother and it's so awesome. Hope I could find a woman that finds me "Sly as a fox and crazy as a loon". Great lyrics and well performed.

It just means that John Prine rules.

    My Opinion

Just another example of the genius of John Prine. Nearly everything he pens elicits a chuckle of self-realization. This is rollicking, but tender. He peels back the complex layers of a relationship, but expresses his feelings so simply that one has to smile with him as we feel the truths within.

I'm certain I'm digging too deeply, but the chorus makes me think of how we're all destined for peace and happiness in the afterlife. In spite of our shortcomings, sins, mistakes, whatever. I know not everyone believes this but I do and it makes me love this song that much more.

Y’all I know this is gonna sound a little strange but I had been with a man almost twice my age not too long ago this just reminds me of him and his ex-wife. He is lying through his teeth to save face, they had always ended up back together from what I understand. He thought he was in love with me but what he is is obsessed with me. After the stories my parents and family and friends have Heard, and all of their getting back together, this would not surprise me in the ways I feel they are always meant to be despite himself! I could see it in his eyes as much as he tried to hide it when I was with him. As weird as it sounds this song to me represents he and his ex-wife and I hope he gets off his high horse because family is all that matters and his family he has made a mess of.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
