The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
INTRO:
Hold On. Hold On To This. Hold On To This Please Just One More Time.
VERSE 1:
The Ringing Phone Was Louder; Then My Clock.
I Didn’t Answer It, Instead; Thought I’d Take A Walk.
Just Like All Those; Times, That We Spent Together.
She’ll Never Learn; She’ll Never Get One Better.
PRE-CHORUS:
Hold On. Hold On. Just So You Know,
CHORUS:
I Can’t See Now &
I Can’t Breath Now
Looking ‘Round,
And Now I’m Sinking Down.
RIFF 1:
Living Like This I Could Not Hope For Better.
I Don’t Remember One Time I Upset Her.
RIFF 2:
Hold On. Hold On To This. Hold On To This Just This One Last Time.
VERSE 2:
So I Think About When It Was Our First Time Together.
And Now I Realize I Could Have Done, Much Better.
In About 2 Days You Will Get The Letter.
About A .45 My Mouth, And Now You’re Better.
PRE-CHORUS:
Hold On. Hold On. Just So You Know.
(Chorus 2x)
ENDING CHORUS:
I Can’t See Now, &
I Can’t Breath Now.
Looking “Round.
And Now I’m, Sinking Down.
Nothing Is Left, To Hold On To.
So It Ended Just, For, You.
(Hold On!)
Hold On. Hold On To This. Hold On To This Please Just One More Time.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
