its obvious the chorus is about a girl who was just miding her own business looking for something good to do(passin through to climb a hill)and she started talking to him(she slipped and slid on my gut spill) when you spill your guts it means to converse. (my better half was praying for you to fall) obviously means a big part of him wanted her to fall for him.

and in the beginning (stale as a two day half full beer) means he was obviously not sharp and not feeling great come on you guys gotta think metaphoricly

It's not about a girl, it's about being depressed and unhappy with his own addiction and fucked up life.

I think he mentions two different girls in the song (I mean, if he even is talking about girls.)

I think the girl who was "passing through to climb a hill" was the girl who put him down and left him because she felt he was holding her down and she wanted to go for better things (climb in life).

He was then spilling his guts to either another girl friend or someone he met at a bar about the whole thing and the girl felt so sorry for him that she either slept with him.

He feels guilty because it's using the girl, but at that moment he was alone and hurt and just wanted her to fall for him so he didn't go home alone.

"I cough up compliments I think/ You're better off walking away while you still can" In the beginning he mentions how he's just complimenting her and hitting on her cos he feels like shit and even warns her to stay away

This song is about alcoholism and matt realizing that his drinking is out of control. It has nothing to do with a relationshipe He comes to this conclusion because of the girl (mostly likely a friend whom he had no romantic feelings for) who was just "passing through" his life but noticed his problem when "she slipped and slid on my gut spill" which is probably a reference to violent vomiting that's brought about from partying (not to say that she physically slipped in his gut spill but rather a metaphor that for the fact that she could not ignore his alcoholism much like it would be impossible to ignore slipping on someone's guts.) She brought this problem to his attention and he finally accepts it, realizing what his life's become.(Stale as a 3 dale half beer..., I'd do anything to erase the past nine years of my life) Keeping that in mind, the line is "my liver too soon to abort" not "all liberty too soon to abort"

this song is actually about matt talking about a time where he could find happiness without booze or drugs it has nothing to do about a girl

I love this song its like the perfect i hate you and want you to really mess up and fuck up your life and i can relate to that a lot

this song is one of their best.

I think this is probably the third best song on goddamnit. The only better ones are message from kathlene and sorry about that

on the one hand i think this song is about a broken relationship, and he sings about the girl that probably left him... and now he talks about how much she hurt him and that he wants her to die...BUT on the other hand it could also be about a friendship that ended! 'cause i don't think that matt was together with a girl for 9 years (!!!!)
