I feel this way sometimes. I just can't seem to get a girlfriend and I ask myself why I don't fall in love. But then sometimes I feel that I know the answer but I just don't want to accept. Like maybe that I'm too picky or am not happy with myself so I can't possibly be happy with someone else. I think that's what they're trying to say with that line.
Love this song, Dan literally seems to take my feelings and put them into song form. Anyway, when I listen to this song, I just think about all those times you sit there and wish you could bring more to your life. This song describes exactly why people turn to achohol and other drugs: 'I have no desire to see through my own eyes anymore'. Sometimes you feel that the only way you're going to help your mental self is by wrecking your physical self.

the song's about being so depressed that you feel your heart's gone black and you can't love (or feel) anything anymore. "we'll cut it up and bury it..." and all you wanna do is get drugged up on alcohol, prescriptions, or anything else... just to ease the pain. "no desire to see through my own eyes anymore"
