Do you want me to hate you?
Honestly, cause you treat me like shit
And you can’t honestly expect me to keep putting up with it
I even tried to change for you
Became who I thought you wanted me to be
Never realized you just didn’t want me

I try to talk to you about this
But you just blow me off
Saying you don’t want to talk about it, well, I do,
I’m sick of basing my life around you

I wanted a girlfriend
Then I’d settle for a friend
But it seems like you don’t want anything to do with me
Being independent’s one thing
But all you are’s a bitch
You’re a fucking scratch that I can’t itch
Wolf in sheep’s skin, you’re such a witch
I can’t believe I wasted love on you

I try to talk to you about this
But you just blow me off
Saying you don’t want to talk about it, well, I do
I’m sick of basing my life around you

I wanted a relationship
Then I’d settle for a call
But it seems like you don’t want anything to do with me at all
Being on your own is one thing
But all you are’s a bitch
You’re a fucking scratch that I can’t itch
Wolf in sheep’s skin, you’re such a witch
I can’t believe I wasted love on you

I wasted two years on you
I wasted my tears on you
Now I’ll listen to my friends, and finally do
What they’ve been telling me to
I’m telling you
Fuck you!

hi, im the songwriter, um waterfallrain, to just give you a little insight into the song, i wrote this about some girl who i was in love with two years, went out with for like two months, and then instead of breaking up with me, decided to just cut off all contact. Instead of just saying she just didnt like me, she left me in the dark, and avoided talking or seeing me. This, if you don't know, is a really shitty thing to do to someone, especially someone as in love with you as i was with her. The day i wrote this was when i finally decided that i wouldnt put up with all the shit she had put me through, and i wrote this in one 10 minute session. I'm totally a guy willing to love a girl, but I'll be damned if I'll waste it all again on someone who doesn't give a fuck about me. Anyway, thats it.

Classic love story true to his western tx roots. One of my favorites as a story, but I think there are alot of songs that are amazing not even listed on this site. I guess I should figure out how to add them, because I have about 8 REK cd's.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
