hippypippypunkska, i too thought there would be heaps of people commenting on this one. One of my many favourite BR songs. My favourite in this is song is the last stanza, reminds me of my ex-gf who said she'd always love me, haha that "adolescent perspective" for you.
I think it's also about how when people say something, they think they mean it, but they are fooling themselves - "there's hope in the words, and emotion in the eyes, it's so easy to be misled by savvy gentle guise"

"it's so easy to be misled by the savvy gentle guise and like fools we trust the delivery" this line basically summs up how anybody can preach almost any idea to anyone, no matter however against it they would be, as long as they deliver it right. people can be intoxicated with the speaker's way with words and they will agree unquestioningly. [see hitler :P]
I agree, It's saying you can't trust a lot of it.
It's about fallacies, basically. Doesnt matter if you believe it or not, that wont change the fact that it's a lie. No matter what you say, no matter how you say it, or how much you truly believe it- it can always end up as a lie.
I thought it was about how people will say anything weather it is wrong or right and weather they themselves believe it or not to keep people happy so they can get what they want out of the situation. they even use their outside emotions to make it sound true but in the end it is "drunk Sincerity"
