The Closing Lyrics
Welcome to the closing
Not for love what for?
It's easy to be taken
But to say
Come again
Leave again
Waste of time
Come again
I'm alone while you're having fun
You have faith while I feel none
Sleep till late to waste half the day
But I'm happy to live this way
And I know that you can't see my pain
But you know that I can see your pain
Come again
Leave again
Waste of time
Come again
I'm alone while you're having fun
You have faith while I feel none
Sleep till late to waste half the day
But I'm happy to live this way
Me and shame are the same
Me and shame take the blame
Me and pain are the same
Me and shame take the blame
Come again
Leave again
Waste of time
Come again
I'm alone while you're having fun
You have faith while I feel none
Sleep till late to waste half the day
But I'm happy to live this way
Not for love what for?
It's easy to be taken
But to say
Come again
Leave again
Waste of time
Come again
You have faith while I feel none
Sleep till late to waste half the day
But I'm happy to live this way
But you know that I can see your pain
Leave again
Waste of time
Come again
You have faith while I feel none
Sleep till late to waste half the day
But I'm happy to live this way
Me and shame take the blame
Me and pain are the same
Me and shame take the blame
Leave again
Waste of time
Come again
You have faith while I feel none
Sleep till late to waste half the day
But I'm happy to live this way

good song to finish on. it sort of rounds up all the feeling of this album, through from slave to cemetry and the rest, and concludes it all with a simple closing. seems like daniel saying "well at the end of the day, im alone while everyone out there is having fun enjoying this album ive made". He also talks about not being able to see the pain he is going through, this makes more sense now as the whole anorexia thing was following the chairs "freak" era.
haha this song defines my high school life. or at least this is one of the songs that got me through it. pretty much agree with what's been said
I think this song is kinda like a more offensive version of "Freak". Whilst "Freak" is defensive of himself saying that he is what he is, "The Closing" is saying how he doesn't conform to popularity because the whole idea of Conformity is stupid. Here's my lyrical interpretation:
"Welcome to the closing Not for love what for?"
He might've been a conformist before, and this is his 'closing'. Not because he loves it, but because it's the right thing to do.
"It's easy to be taken But to say"
I think he's pointing out that it's not hard to be prep/jock/chav, but then he questions the morality of it.
"Come again Leave again Waste of time Come again"
How conformity is the same old bullshit, and he thin's it's a 'waste of time'.
"I'm all alone while you're having fun You have faith while I feel none Sleep till late to waste half the day But I'm happy to live this way"
Basically, he's saying that being preppy may be more fun than not being, but he doesn't care because he's perfectly happy where he is.
"And you know that you can't see my pain But you know that I can see your pain"
I think that the conformists don't notice him, but he notices them, including their 'pain'.
"Me and shame are the same Me and shame take the blame"
He's being ironic by saying that anyone who isn't popular is a goth who claims to be a very shameful and evil person.
Lyrically, this is one of Silverchair's best songs. I know that my interpretation probably isn't 100% accurate, but it's how I think it is.
I love everything about this song. The words, the music, the whole sound is very whole and complete. They did a great job on this one.
