Hot sticky scenes you know what I mean
Like a desert sun that burns my skin
I've been waiting for her so long
Open the sky (and let her come down)
Here comes the rain I love the rain
Here she comes again
Rain
Rain
Rain
Like a desert sun that burns my skin
I've been waiting for her so long
Open the sky (and let her come down)
Here comes the rain I love the rain
Here she comes again
Rain
Rain
Rain

..a great mid 80s gothic anthem.. get out your black hat
Sex for sure. Lyrics suggest it's about a woman who squirts when she has an orgasm: "Here she comes again."
@Rocknrollnsight Lol...squirting hadn't even been "invented by p0rn director's" when this track was written!

It seems he's fallen for a girl with whom he equates the sun beating down on the crops, burning them up and not allowing them to grow is akin to how he feels without her. At some point, she notices him and the love he has for her. When they finally get together, it allows his heart and soul to finally be nourished and grow the way the rain nourishes and feeds the crops in their dry, barren land. Each time they are together, she is like the rain for his dry, barren heart causing him to bloom and grow. He would burn up without her.
@AntiPattern And yes, making love is a big part of their love.

Love the Cult. The song is referencing the love of something very natural - sex. It's about sex with someone you are spiritually connected with and two people become one. Time is irrelevant, only more sex.
Definitely agree with user AntiPattern's interpretation. It's about his desire for a woman and uses rain as a metaphor for what she does to him romantically/erotically.
Love this song, i like to think of it as he is hoping and longing for love, waiting for the right girl to come along, looking up to the sky. But it keeps raining, cant find love. And he is getting fed up and frustrated
Ian lived on 7 nations indian tribal land for a few years after school before returning to England. There are alot of native american references in his music. This song is actually about sex, but makes it sound like RAIN>
I love the rain!!!
Probably the best song on the Love album - IMHO. Based on the lack of posts on this and all of The Cult songs (also the fact that other great Cult songs aren't even listed on this site), I'd say they are very under-rated and overlooked. C'mon! Stop listening to homogenized "hit radio". It SUCKS! The Cult ROCKS!!!
The Cult is absolutely underrated and overlooked! Greatest band EVER. Saw them live in '87 and a few times in '09 and they are still amazing live. Go see them when they tour again. You will not be disappointed.

And yeah, Ian Astbury has said this song is simply about sex...

It says on Wikipedia that "the lyrics were reportedly inspired by a Hopi rain dance". But of course, maybe that was only the starting point, and the song can be understood in two ways.
