Whether or not the weather's on my side
We could be together if I stay bright-eyed
I can feel the summer sending signs of fall
See a happy ending if I stand up tall

Whether or not this cold front is moving in
Or it's just vacation and we'll soon be friends
I know I can't avoid her, she's in the air
May as well Polaroid her with the way I stare

Tonight the stars are so bright
I've gotta get outdoors while the weather's still here
Take in the starlight before it disappears
A chance lasts a finite time in the cool July night time
So take in all you can

Whether or not our season will soon be done
Think I've got a reason to enjoy the sun
Hear the forecast ain't as bad as it seems
It should be clearing up soon if only in dreams

Tonight the stars are so bright
I've gotta get outdoors while the weather's still here
Take in the starlight before it disappears
A chance lasts a finite time in the cool July night time
So take in all you can

I've gotta get outdoors while the weather's still here
Take in the starlight before it disappears
A chance lasts a finite time in the cool July night time
So take in all you can

he likes a girl, she'll be gone by winter, hes trying to think optimistically about her, yet he thinks he has no chance so it's "only in dreams"

This is a really sweet song...he's thinking about a girl, and he wants to take a chance with her before its too late, I think thats what he means when he says I've got to get out doors while the weathers still clear. I think the whole weather/seasons thing is just a metaphor for the girl and her and his relationship...

Perhaps... They also pull some lyrics from Ozma's "Domino Effect"

"A chance lasts a finite time in the warm July nighttime"

I think this song is great, i love hellogoodbye.

I think this song is about a boy and a girl, duh. I think the weather thing is a metaphor like Natalie said. But maybe they're already in a relashionship?

I also think that it could be about a summer fling and they both really like each other but she has to go away after summer. Both are just wild guesses.

i think that the "good weather" thing has to do with his chance at making a relationship with the girl, maaaybe not necessarily the actual weather. or maybe he thinks that the with good weather, he has more of a chance to impress a girl a la starlight

Ministry
Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
