Over the Hills and Far Away (Gary Moore cover) (feat. Tony Kakko) Lyrics
They came for him one winter's night
Arrested, he was bound
They said there'd been a robbery
His pistol had been found
They marched him to the station house
He waited for the dawn
And as they lead him to the dock
He knew that he'd been wronged
"You stand accused of robbery,"
he heard the bailiff say
He knew without an alibi
Tomorrow's light would mourn his freedom
Over the hills and far away
For ten long years he'll count the days
Over the mountains and the seas
A prisoner's life for him there'll be
He knew that it would cost him dear
But yet he dare not say
Where he had been that fateful night
A secret it must stay
He had to fight back tears of rage
His heartbeat like a drum
For with the wife of his best friend
He spent his final night of freedom
Over the hills and far away
He swears he will return one day
Far from the mountains and the seas
Back in her arms is where he'll be
Over the hills and far away
Over the hills and, over the hills and, over the hills and far away
Each night within his prison cell
He looks out through the bars
He reads the letters that she wrote
One day he'll know the taste of freedom
Over the hills and far away
She prays he will return one day
As sure as the rivers reach the seas
Back in his arms is where she'll be
Over the hills and far away
He swears he will return one day
Far from the mountains and the seas
Back in her arms is where he'll be
Over the hills and far away
She prays he will return one day
As sure as the rivers reach the seas
Back in his arms is where she'll be
Over the hills
Over the hills and far away
Over the hills
Over the hills and far away
Arrested, he was bound
They said there'd been a robbery
His pistol had been found
He waited for the dawn
And as they lead him to the dock
He knew that he'd been wronged
"You stand accused of robbery,"
he heard the bailiff say
He knew without an alibi
Tomorrow's light would mourn his freedom
For ten long years he'll count the days
Over the mountains and the seas
A prisoner's life for him there'll be

Far from the mountains and the seas
Back in her arms is where he'll be
She prays he will return one day
As sure as the rivers reach the seas
Back in his arms is where she'll be
Over the hills and far away
Over the hills
Over the hills and far away

nightwish are just amazing - i haven't heard the original of this song but i can't believe it'd be any better than this version. it's my favourite nightwish song (i think....) and tarja just has an amazing voice and look- For with the wife of his best friend He spent his final night of freedom -ooh scandal!!!! lol
Umm, this is like one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. Nightwish did a seriously fantastic job of it, I love it. This is one of the few songs I'm willing to sing in front of people. That says something.
One of the best songs ever, it's unbelievable how crappy the original is and what Nightwish did to it.
I head the original version of this song. They are both good. The Nightwish version has better chorus and is harder but the Gary Moore version is good too.
Okay, since no one is bothering with trying to say what the fuck the song is about, I will. I THINK, from what I have read, that the song is a musical interpretation of The Count of Monte Cristo. We all know the song is great, so stop saying it and offer your opinion of what the song MEANS.
I think it's something to do with adultery.. "For with the wife of his best friend He spent his final night of freedom"
It's all about love.. "He knew that it would cost him dear But yet he dare not say Where he had been that fateful night A secret it must stay" fearing for what may happen to the woman he was having an affair with and obviously the friendship he's already risked. This is all I can come up with at the moment, and for the record Nightwish are amazing :)
To me it sounds like... a crime was commited, he was the suspect, and he goes to jail rather than risk losing his wife because he had been with his friends wife the night the robbery happend. Amazing song.
I think that he (unmarried) is having an affair with his friends wife, his friend finds out and frames him, he takes the blame to protect his friends wife (so she wouldn't be found guilty of adultery) and it's about them wishing and praying that they'll meet again
i love this song
I agree with binni on the meaning, and yeah, it's a great song! Probably my favorite bu Nightwish, either this or She Is My Sin.
