Lovers in a Dangerous Time Lyrics
Don't the hours grow shorter as the days go by
You never get to stop and open our eyes
One minute you're waiting for the sky to fall
The next you're dazzled by the beauty of it all
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
These fragile bodies of touch and taste
This fragrant skin this hair like lace
Spirits open to the thrust of grace
Never a breath you can afford to waste
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Sometimes you're made to feel as if your love's a crime
Nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight
Got to kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
We were lovers in a dangerous time
We were lovers in a dangerous time
You never get to stop and open our eyes
One minute you're waiting for the sky to fall
The next you're dazzled by the beauty of it all
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
This fragrant skin this hair like lace
Spirits open to the thrust of grace
Never a breath you can afford to waste
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Sometimes you're made to feel as if your love's a crime
Nothing worth having comes without some kind of fight
Got to kick at the darkness 'til it bleeds daylight
When you're lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
Lovers in a dangerous time
We were lovers in a dangerous time

if you love someone....fight for them!
This song is a thinly veiled commentary on society's rejection of homosexual relations. The line "you're made to feel as if your love's a crime" references the illegalization of homosexuality in many of the world's (mostly Islamic) countries.
Wouldn't that be, lover's in a dangerous place?

Totally agree with what your reading, except, it isn't only Islamic countries where such intolerance exists. I grew up in a gay neighborhood and I had quite a few friends and others that I knew who werre victims of 'gay bashing'. Ever since I was young I have read into the song's 'darkness' line as referencing to homophobia and/or intolerance.

I love this song, it's better than Bruce Cockburn's orignal, which is pretty good. Cockburn hated their cover at first cuz he thought they were making fun of the song but he likes it now.
This song is about a couple in a war zone (most likely Nicaragua in the 1980's because Cockburn went on a trip this during this time to help out those in need of aid. This song appeared on a Bruce Cockburn album, which dealt largely with issues in Central America at this time).
I agree.
I agree.
I tend to take the song much more literally - that it actually is about two people who fell in love during a war, and the knowledge that they might die any day now makes them appreciate the world that much more. Also, they want to make the most of the world while they're there - carpe diem, if you will. Put beside the fact that they have to fight for everything they have right now, it seems almost a crime that something that makes them so happy doesn't have to be fought for.
'One minute you're waiting for the sky to fall The next you're dazzled by the beauty of it all'
I think this song is kind of about contrasts: love and life which is beautiful, amongst a world on the verge of disaster: nuclear warfare, terrorism, disease and the list goes on and on... One feels like this world might end any second. But it's also about the awe of love and being alive, even amongst all this disaster.
Beautiful song!
This song is pretty adaptable and I don't think there was any one deep meaning behind it, it's just about every Romeo and Juliet out there.
I do think this song relates well to the AIDS crisis in the 80's when the song was written, so if the song is a tribute to anything that's it for sure.
This is my all time favorite song with a somewhat jaded message. Some people say this song is about the AIDs crisis, but it is really a lot more tamer than that. It is about two adolecent kids in 8th or 9th grade who are not afraid to show their feelings for each other in front of their peers and elders. The lyric 'got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight' is talking about how they refuse to let the world just remain as it is and they want to change it.
this song always makes me just look at my generation as a whole. I'm 15 and my generation just seems like its caught up in a world of anti-depressants and angst. We're the prozac nation, it's obvious. Everywhere I turn, my friends are confession depression and saying they don't like their lives. To feeling anything close to love is extremely dangerous, people tell us we're too young to know love or to get wrapped up in anything like it. We have to fight to keep our relationships. I doubt this is what BNL means when they sing it I know they didn't write it, but it certainly hits home for me
With all due respect to Bruce Cockburn, BNL took this song and added magic. It sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it. The video is so simple and effective too. Driving in an open bed pickup through Scarborough neighbourhoods in the winter. It's just so inspired.
i think the whole song is about how screwed up people are in modern times. it's saying how nothing is safe or sacred anymore, not even love, so even lovers are in a dangerous time. i guess that's what its about
