Summer Here Kids Lyrics
Summer here kids
After she lets you glide around
finally hit the ground like a paper plane
take a trip, join me in the sun
but not really though cause I ain't havin' fun
Cause summer here kids Summer here totally lies
tourist people said I'd have a good time
summer here kids all of them awful lies
tourist people said I'd have a good time
Do as I didn't do because
I'm a picture of undumbivity
stay alone, put a record on
listen to the songs, keep yourself at home
Cause summer here kids Summer here totally lies
tourist people said I'd have a good time
summer here kids all of them awful lies
tourist people said I'd have a good time
I'd have a good time.
I'm not having a good time.
I'm not having a good time
finally hit the ground like a paper plane
take a trip, join me in the sun
but not really though cause I ain't havin' fun
tourist people said I'd have a good time
summer here kids all of them awful lies
tourist people said I'd have a good time
I'm a picture of undumbivity
stay alone, put a record on
listen to the songs, keep yourself at home
tourist people said I'd have a good time
summer here kids all of them awful lies
tourist people said I'd have a good time
I'd have a good time.
I'm not having a good time.
I'm not having a good time

Reminds me of the time I went to the US and we went to Disneyland in CA.. a complete letdown.
Somehow, it's gotten into my head that this song is about Grandaddy's hometown, Modesto, CA, a place that's been called "a great place to live, a horrible place to visit." It may be.
I thought it was 'tourist info'... One really rockin out song about how fun cant be bought perhaps..
the line ' Summer Here Kids ' & note to british media (kids is NOT a noun) represents maybe a metaphoric place that isnt all it's cracked up to be.
Imagine if you see a commercial on TV, ' Come to this tourist destination, you'll have a wonderful time ' and you get there, and don't enjoy it at all. In a metaphoric sense i think this idea is what Jason was trying to capture, but I do believe it's meant to be a rather vague topic that could be seen many ways. I think the Summer reference to Grandaddy probably relates to a lot of the hyped scenes, places, music and lifestyles that they see and hear about going on in the big cities and community that they (being country folk) just arent interested in and don't want to be a part of - therefore that lifestyle ' kids '.
the end lines ' I'm not having a good time ' sticks in your head. HOW GOOD IS IT, makes you start to question yourself.. are you having a good time? are you being honest with yourself?
it's about drugs i do believe. cokes negative effects mostly, i'd guess. not all g.d. songs are about technology or heartbreak. and this one's a daisy.
i believe this song is in the same vein as Nonphenomenal Lineage, but with a slight twist. it could be about growing up and feeling ostracized/excluded within society and always feeling left out - never committed to society's standards and living rejected. in this narrative, the character is feeling mistreated and different to everyone else's emotions.
