I never thought about it relating to drugs o_0 . I thought it was just about being paranoid. I have felt alot like this latley. Recently my friends have been a lil "off" towards me and I don't know what I've done - " Avoiding my friends cause they all bug Life is a riddle and I'm really stumped "

He has a phobia of people and he's going crazy, because he thinks something bad is going to happen. He's utterly paranoid, he is afraid of everything and he never feels safe.

I do NOT think this is about drugs at all. I think that it is a bit about paranoia, but not completely. He is afraid of something, but I think that the paranoia is of himself (I'm being followed/I look around/Its only my shadow creeping on the ground). I think something happened and the memories are driving him crazy. I think the "demons in his head" refer to personal demons, therefore memories. He's been hurt, and he's afraid of himself.

dexter is telling us that he doesnt like himself or other people for that matter, hence the line "gotta get away from me" and "paranoid of people and its starting to show" its quiet simplle really

This is the real story, While Offspring was writing the record Smash, Gotta Get Away was the LAST song being written in the process. Dexter at the time still did not have Lyrics for GGA. The record company was on his ass to meet the deadlines and to finish the song, the pressure was on him for the song was so high that he became paranoid, scared, and out of whack enough to inspire Dexter to put all that paranoia into Gotta Get WAway and that was the lyrics for this song and just look at how it turned out. Turned out to be a good song!
