Every Home Is Wired Lyrics

Modem load and failsafe
Electric teenage dust
Hit the solvent keypad
Start the neural rust

Power on the highway
Data in my head
Surfing on the network
Part of me is dead

Every Home is Wired

Swimming in the circuit
Somebody has expired
This world will be the future
Every home is wired

from stars die: the delerium years booklet-

"it expresses steven's early concerns about the impersonalizing effects of life in cyberspace. these days, he's a happy websurfer..."

kinda reminds me of the concept of fear of a blank planet

@FenderPrecision Yes, Steven warned us in 1996 about the dangers. But he himself was swallowed by the 'circuit'.

To me, this is Steven's take on the information society and how spending too much time surfing the net, playing games or whatever can really alienate you from reality.

And it isn't far from the truth either, since many of the western households have acces to the internet.

Thats a great thought you have there. Makes me feel a little depressed about myself.

I think not giving it "another layer of significance", which makes perfect sense by the way, might have been intended. Instead of portraying our "inevitable" future as a society, he does it on a simpler and more personal level. Leaves the listener to think and let it set in, and with the hope of change or at least awareness.

If i catch your drift with the falseness and diversions that we fill our lives with, I totally agree. I think many people do this with most of the things we do, and I think it is wayy to easy to float through life without self-questioning and avoiding matters that distract us from reality and the significance/beauty of life. Basically we could all use a good dose of the short story "You can't take it with you" every once in a while.

@thing I wonder if in a few decades there will be a violent reaction against the Internet and people will research what artists said about it at the beginning. They'll find this song and Steven Wilson will become the new god of something in 2058.

Yes. It's about how we fill our lives with flase stuff like the internet, in order to give some meaning and interest to ourselves. It's the easiest way for us to escape the whole being face to face with life and with problems in them, by dealing with them virtualy. But really, not living right, becoming "passive" in a way, or more "numb", I'd say, and weaker. Letting our soul die slowly in this plastic world of data we surround ourselve with, thinking it's the answer for our problems and issues in life, for being so available, so cold and even anonymous. Looking for the easy (yet mostly- wrong) way out. Letting things control our lives, and not controling them ourselves. I think this song could have had giving another layer of significance, to make it more meaningful. But maybe this is a self-criticizem and sobriety of the writer, and that is what he's trying to say. That he is a part of this. Living in it, like everybody else. Only they should be aware of this.
