Thats a great thought you have there. Makes me feel a little depressed about myself.

I think not giving it "another layer of significance", which makes perfect sense by the way, might have been intended. Instead of portraying our "inevitable" future as a society, he does it on a simpler and more personal level. Leaves the listener to think and let it set in, and with the hope of change or at least awareness.

If i catch your drift with the falseness and diversions that we fill our lives with, I totally agree. I think many people do this with most of the things we do, and I think it is wayy to easy to float through life without self-questioning and avoiding matters that distract us from reality and the significance/beauty of life. Basically we could all use a good dose of the short story "You can't take it with you" every once in a while.

@thing I wonder if in a few decades there will be a violent reaction against the Internet and people will research what artists said about it at the beginning. They'll find this song and Steven Wilson will become the new god of something in 2058.
