Love Walks In Lyrics
Contact, is all it takes,
To change your life to lose your place in time,
Contact, asleep or awake,
Coming around you may wake up to find,
Questions deep within your eyes,
Now more than ever you realize,
And then you sense a change,
Nothing feels the same,
All your dreams are strange,
Love comes walkin' in,
Some kind of alien,
Waits for the opening,
Simply pulls a string,
Another world, some other time,
You lay your sanity on the line,
Familiar faces, familiar sights,
Reach back remember with all your might,
Oh there she stands in a silken gown,
Silver lights shining down,
And then you sense a change,
Nothing feels the same,
All your dreams are strange,
Love comes walkin' in,
Some kind of alien,
Waits for the opening,
And simply pulls a string,
Love comes walkin', in
Oh, sleep and dream, that's all I crave,
I travel far across the milky way,
To my master I become a slave,
Till we meet again some other day,
Where silence speaks as loud as war,
Earth returns to what it was before,
And then you sense a change,
Nothing feels the same,
All your dreams are strange,
Love comes walkin' in,
Some kind of alien,
Waits for the opening,
Simply pulls a string,
A love comes walkin' in
Love comes walkin' in,
Baby, pull the string,
Love comes walkin' in,
Love comes walkin' in, yeah,
Huh,
Yeah,
Ah,ooh

This song was inspired by aliens...
Great tune, one of my favorites. This song is NOT about "romantic" love. It´s about an out of body experience, lucid dream or astral projection. Very clear for those that can relate, maybe that is the way it was intended.
@MSMCH Yes! Hagar's misinterpretation of an out of body experience, maybe even a lucid dream (although you tend to have personal control over those). He thought it was an alien encounter, as per the interviews where he talks about aliens and crap.

I agree that this song includes aliens and perhaps the occult, but I think reincarnation is also a theme in the song. Familiar faces and sights, reach back remember with all your might. This is an obvious reference to past lives. I think when he says sleep and dream is all he craves, I think that means he wants to escape the cycles of karma. He has to travel across the milky way to be reincarnated somewhere else, somewhere that his master (supreme being of the universe) appoints for him. Nevertheless, he knows that he will someday be reunited with his love and soul mate.
@McThuggin2011 Nice! Though I don't agree with it being about reincarnation - "familiar faces" = those you already know on the other side. "Reach back remember..." trying to remember everyone you knew before you were born here on Earth, and trying to remember who you were then as well. Not reincarnation, but who you/we/they are all on the other side - where we come from. I totally believe in reincarnation, but this reality (here on earth in this life) is the dream/Matrix/whatever and the other side is reality. We're in boot camp here, to learn...

We're in boot camp here, to learn and experience and to grow/educate our own souls. Any glimpse of where we are from (per Hagar) is beautiful and "Love".
@McThuggin2011 I agree with you, that the lyrics seem to reference reincarnation and reuniting with a soul mate. From what I've read, Hagar did write this about what he perceived to be an alien encounter. But I think it is just as possible that the encounter was with a spirit guide of some sort. And yes, I DO believe such things are possible.

This song is about being contacted by a past love after a long period of time through a dream while asleep.
"Contact is all it takes, to change your life, to lose your place in time" (picture being married with two kids and some past love shows up in your dream one night. That's all it takes to lose your place in time... to forget about your current situation and think about what might have been had you never split from your past).
"Contact, asleep or awake coming around you may wake up to find" (whether you've dreamed about this past love or were actually directly contacted by them, you come to realize maybe that's the person you're really meant to be with. Not your current spouse or partner).
"Questions deep within your eyes, now more than ever, you realize" (you already had a feeling that the one you're with isn't the one you're meant to be with for eternity, and now you really realize you made the wrong decision after this contact from the past).
"And then you sense a change, Nothing feels the same, all your dreams have changed, love comes walking in" (Those old feelings come back, your dreams with your current spouse, partner, and/or family no longer matter. Everything in your future that you've been planning for doesn't matter because you realize it's all wrong. You made the wrong decision years ago. You've fallen back in love with your past lover).
"Some kind of alien looks for an opening and simply pulls the string" (Alien... something foreign. Not something from outer space... The person who has contacted you from the past is the alien. They're looking for an opening in your current relationship so they can move back in. This person has always loved you and knows that they have such power over you that they control you and the strings to get you back. Like on a marionette.
"Another world, some other time, you lay your sanity on the line" (You think and remember back when you were with this person. You question yourself if you're nuts to be thinking about leaving your current situation for this past love).
"Familiar faces, familiar sights, reach back and remember with all your might" (again, remembering the past with this person and things you may have done and experiences you may have had with him/her. You try with all your might to remember because you realize those were more pleasant times than with your current situation).
"There she stands in a silken gown, silver lights shining down" (Tied into the previous line. You could have married her. You think back to when you used to think about marrying her and seeing her walk down the isle in a wedding gown to be with you. But it actually never happened).
"Oh sleep and dream are all I crave, I travel far across the Milky Way" (Now that narrator has been contacted by the past love, being with this person is now all that matters. Actual conscious interaction with his current partner means nothing anymore. He gets to be with this past love only when sleeping and dreaming.)
"To my master, I become a slave, 'til we meet again some other day" (He knows that his actions are dependent on this past love, but that he can not leave his current situation. He's going to only be reunited with the past love when they die.
"Where silence speaks as loud as war, Earth returns to what it was before" (His current spouse or partner knows he doesn't love her and that he yearns to be with someone else, but speaks nothing of it and does not confront him due to possibly losing him and pushing him away. As a result, 'Earth returns to what it was before'. - the same hum-drum life that they were leading together. Nothing will change. The decisions made long ago can not be gone back on and corrected. But we can dream about what could have been).
"It's been a long, long time, but back in about '68, in Fontana, California, I had this unbelievable experience that would take this whole interview to even go into," Hagar told Guitar World magazine recently. "But I'm a firm believer — have seen, have felt, have been contacted three or four different times. I have received information that has been valuable in my life from those people, and they have used me. I'm gonna sound like a complete nut here, but they have used me in an experimental fashion. The easiest way to put it is that they downloaded my brain information. When I was about 19 or 20, they downloaded everything that was in my head. And I caught 'em doin' it! I woke up in the middle of the night, thinkin', 'What's goin' on?' They were like, 'Oh, my god, he's waking up!' But this was all telepathy — there were no words being spoken. And as soon as I woke up — it was probably three o'clock in the morning — my whole room was so bright that I could hardly keep my eyes open. I was wide-awake, I could not move, eyes open, white room, they were still disconnecting — and when they did, it just went bang! Everything went back to normal, back to black. I was shaking, I almost passed out, I was sick to my stomach and almost had to throw up, it was so scary…
@cactusdave Please stop.... The song was written by Eddie. Sammy just sings it. Whatever this interview is, it has nothing to do with the song.

Substitute the word "God" for "love" and it's pretty clear what this song is about.
When I first heard this song I thought it was awesome - until I heard the chorus. An alien? An alien who pulls a string? Not all metaphors aregood metaphors. I just can't take it seriously. It sounds like something weird Al Yankovic would write, except weird Al is funny.
Songs touch us in different ways. We're not all the same so songs will always mean something different to each of us.
To me this song is all about a person who experiences true love for the first time. When love "walks in" it's like an alien; it's different. We're never the same again and life changes. We see things differently.
And then you sense a change Nothin' feels the same All your dreams are strange Love comes walkin' in Some kind of alien Waits for the opening Simply pulls a string
@Bigg You're on the right track, but Sammy Hagar was around 38 years old when he wrote this song. It's written from the point of view of someone who hasn't been in love for so long it becomes almost alien to them (i.e. the person wonders if they'll ever experience true love again). Sammy had fun with the lyrics (all the alien references), because he knew from personal experience it was just a matter of time before...

I think the Love thing hits it right on the head. The string is a heart string, and it can't be seen, hence "Some kind of alien" anything strange, foreign or different is alien. That opening is when you let your guard down, and love just comes walking in to take over. You'll feel like you are on another planet and have gone crazy.

Don't know why this song catches so much shit. I love it. Sammy's vocal DELIVERY in the song is achingly beautiful and unique. the words are a bit cheesy...but man those arrangements are LUSH. Van Halen went through a keyboard-y phase with "1984" and "5150" albums and I think they showed they could really flourish this way.
To the above...I know what this song is about. Sammy Hagar either took part in an occult group or was, most likely, part of an experimental mind control program when he was younger.
If you do some research on those topics the origin of the song becomes quite clear. A lot of 70's artists wrote lyrics, or had lyrics written for them, that were written in code that makes sense to somebody who is involved in the occult.
I'm not involved in the occult, witchcraft, or mind control. I've just done a lot of research on those subjects. It's funny how these old songs...lyrics I never put much thought into...make sense to me now. It's almost like listening to them for the first time again.
@ThereIsNoEye As stated earlier, this song was written by Eddie... Sammy has nothing to do with its meaning... he just sings it.
