Dream Weaver

this is the most UNIMPORTANT song Crowbar has done. It's a cover for crying out loud. Post on "I Am Forever"....How can you believe someone hasn't posted on this song and not an actual Crowbar song that is relevant. This song means nothing. It is impotent. Kirk Windstein crushes Gary Wright's existence.

I am really surprised nobody has commented on this yet.

I came here hoping to find an interpretation but I guess I'll have to throw up my own.

I think the first time I heard this (and probably one of the most popular places for anybody's hearing) was in Wayne's World, during Wayne's fantasy fascination with the rocker girl Cassandra.

But I don't think this is a love song.

At first listen, I'm inclined to believe this is a song about a drug, maybe not a powerful narcotic, but probably just a sleeping pill.

Or maybe it's about a mattress, or a pillow. Geez, I dunno...

I could see the sleeping pill thing, although I didn't associate it with drugs. Just him wanting to fall asleep to escape the problems/pain in his life. Maybe he's really depressed, a lot of people just want to sleep and not think about anything when they're depressed. I do agree that it's not a love song.

I don't think this song is about drugs. The writer is referring to the object of his dreams he had while experiencing his first nocturnal emissions. It's the girl on the poster on his wall--the last thing he sees before nodding off to sleep and the first thing he sees in the morning. The instrumental passages at the end give a pretty convincing picture of a climax of sorts and depending on the version you hear there is something like an alarm clock. It's a lot more obvious than "Pictures of Lilly".

After the record was released and became successful many people asked me what the song meant. I really wasn't sure myself and would answer "it was about a kind of fantasy experience... a Dream Weaver train taking you through the cosmos." But I was never satisfied with that explanation, and as years went by I began to reflect on what the song actually meant and then it came to me: 'Dream Weaver, I believe you can get me through the night...," was a song about Someone with infinite compassion and love carrying us through the night of our trials and suffering. Wow, I totally thought this song was all about a trip on some LSD, or some kind of mind-bending drug. But the singer says it's about God. Ok.

Great metal bands perform great covers. (See Type O Negative...Fear Factory on most occasions...)

Awesome song. The old one sounds so wimpy now, and I say that even as a full-fledged Beach Boys fan.
