Following your head might be a long, long road to nowhere
Don't dwell on the past
You've got to find the strength to lead you
Hear my words now
Suffer with me
Drown in despair
Set yourself free
Underneath your skin is there enough to keep you breathing?
I drew my own blood another life through this transfusion
Born again in time you're not alone in what you're feeling
Don't dwell on the past
You've got to find the strength to lead you
Hear my words now
Suffer with me
Drown in despair
Set yourself free
Underneath your skin is there enough to keep you breathing?
I drew my own blood another life through this transfusion
Born again in time you're not alone in what you're feeling

Kirk talks about not dwelling on the past, and then moves on to phrases like "Drown in despair/Set yourself free" and suggests-- it seems to me-- he gains a life (because he says "ANOTHER life") through a metaphorical transfusion. Add in the last line about not being alone, and part of me wonders if he isn't talking about how we can gain life by mere means of being social creatures. Knowing others can relate is, in itself, like a transfusion of life. Great friends (and sometimes the resulting great lovers) are like the blood of life itself. How else can you be set free by suffering? Only by sharing it with others and working through it.
"Following your head might be a long, long road to nowhere", interesting line and I take it as "logic vs emotion". A smart person is more likely to avoid trouble than a person who thinks with his/her heart and this song seems to be encouraging to follow your heart atleast sometimes so that you can get a taste of conflict and the aftermath of it all.
Look forward to a prosperous future
Master your courage
Listen to people
Realise they are suffering too
Drown your ego in this realisation
Set yourself free
Reflect upon your inner self
*From the perspective of a higher self / god / father* - I drew my own blood for your life.
Revived on the other side of a brutal destructive depression
