Amelia Bright Lyrics
hey, something is new
it got into me
and I hope that it got into you
the way my covers are made
trumpets will play
and I hope that it's inside,
I hope that it got into you
there's no doubt
here lies Amelia Bright
in a red 50's dress
from a thrift shop nearby
I laid on the ground
and stared at the sky
with Amelia Bright
there's clothes
that hide them away
there's me spread
all over the floor
and I'm lost in one place,
I'm stuck, and I'm straight,
and I hope that you feel the same way
there's no doubt
here lies Amelia Bright
in a red 50's dress
from a thrift shop nearby
I laid on the grass
and stared at the sky
with Amelia Bright
there's no doubt,
there's nothing to work out
you're alone,
'cause you're always on your own
when you yawn,
it makes me want to yawn, too
plain, expressionless view
it got into you,
with a necklace, no shoes,
the promise of truth,
and a life to be bright and new
there's no doubt
here lies Amelia Bright
over the bars of
the graveyard at night
I laid on the grass
and stared at the sky
with Amelia Bright,
with Amelia Bright,
with Amelia Bright
it got into me
and I hope that it got into you
the way my covers are made
trumpets will play
and I hope that it's inside,
I hope that it got into you

I'm kind of biased because my name is Emilia, but I do think it's spelled my way and not "Amelia," if you listen to the way he said it.
Hey, theyre both names..... nice AIM, i couldnt think of anything better than this ^ !
Emilia and Amelia are pretty much said the same way, depending on your accent. My friend's name is Amelia, and I can't see anything of her in this song, which will disappoint her. Oh well!!
Hey now! They truly aren't said the same way. At least, if you're saying my name right it's not said "Amelia."
i really like the cover hotel lights did on this one... if you don't know, hotel lights is a band formed by ben folds five drummer, darren jessee. there were probably no more than 50 people where he performed it, though :( if you have time, i'd love for you to take a look at it
That wasn't a cover. It's D. Jessee's song.
It'd be like B. Folds playing Brick on his own and calling that a cover.
I'm not sure if the song is about a girl named Amelia Bright that the narrator is in love with or if it's about a dead person named Amelia Bright who's grave the narrator is laying near.
Actually, Darren wrote (at the very least) the chorus to "Brick." Funny how Darren played a major role in two of their biggest hits (he wrote "Song for the Dumped", too). He was like the band's George Harrison: didn't get much of a chance to show his writing skills in the band, but when he did ... he blew 'em away.

Which is probably why Hotel Lights is such a good band.

And let us not forget "Magic." Wow. The guy's gifted, and to paraphrase a band who I won't name, still he goes unnoticed.

I always read this song as being about the singer's latent homosexuality, or homosexual feelings that he's afraid to express. Amelia, of course, being a personification of those feelings.
the promise of truth, and a life to be bright and new
