Recipe for Hate Lyrics

Can't you feel it can't you see it
The promise of prosperity
It's overwhelming you and me
It afflicts us like a disease
Ubiquitous compelling too

We cling to you like crazy glue
And inject such a potent seed
It's best for all humanity

The spread of culture
The sword of progress
The vector of suffrage
A warm and septic breeze

The pomp and elation
The duty and vocation
The blood of the hybrid
It's just a recipe

Re-living our ancestry
The frightful lack of harmony
Our fore-fothers who led the way
Their victims are still here today
Now it's time to erase the story

Of our bogus fate
Our history as it's portrayed
It's just a recipe for hate

It's about the exportation of culture and how it causes resentment and hate while at the same time we refuse to acknowledge the fact that our culture came about not by some bloodless revealed truth, as we are wont to believe, but came from and brought bloodshed, violence, bigotry, and hate itself.

its funny cu i learned about this in school today -> the en talks about how our ancestors, the founding fathers, columbus, are glorified by our education and holidys, etc, when in reality columbus was responsible for the arbitrary slaughtering and rap of over 250,000 native americans, and indirectly responsibly for the inhabitance of the americas by europeans. yet we have a holiday for him, and if you read any 5th rgade textbook no mention of their interaction is stated... all it says is that he came and american was forme and they ate thanksgiving dinner.

You really bought the crap in schools today. Mr Graffin wants you to believe the false history. Why don't you read "The 5000 year leap", or the "Road to Serfdom". Oh you won't get those books in school. I'm Sorry to inform you of the fact you are being indoctrinated. Why don't you question even the people who you hold in such high esteem like Mr. Graffin, who is less than honest in his lyrics. Who dispises capitalism but gets rich from it.Bad religion is an extremley dishonest band who is guilty of the same things they accuse others of....

..Are you really that stupid or are you just being a troll? ..Honest question. I guess I have to go ahead and treat the situation as if you're the former.. though I am hoping that's not the case, because that comment was just amazingly uninformed and unintelligent in multiple aspects.

Um, no. Did you not read the post that you replied to? He is not telling us to believe in the "false history" that you're so mindlessly ranting on about. "Indoctrinated" means to be taught from a particular point of view. Do you actually understand what you're saying? Everything you...

  • "Indoctrinated" means to be taught from a particular point of view. Do you actually understand what you're saying? Everything you just said is presenting your (however misguided) point of view on the song. YOU'RE INDOCTRINATING. Not only is that obviously hypocritical, but then you go on to call Graffin and the rest of BR hypocritical because "they are guilty of the same things they accuse others of". Did you not think before you posted?
  • You should also learn more about capitalism. (And grammar.) All successful bands make money.. it's why they're able to be successful and continue to produce music that actually gets heard. Bad Religion are (not is) one of the most honest and intelligent bands to ever walk this planet.
  • I can't understand what the hell you're trying to say in that last sentence. "They use the down trodden as a tool and really care less about them."? So they use oppression as a tool to care less about hypocrites? I'm sure if I knew what you meant I could give you another example of your naivety but unfortunately it was worded too poorly. Oh, and you "dipise" the band. Great. Moron.

This song will always be timeless as long as America considers itself a superpower who must democratize other countries in the name of "freedom."

Did anyone else hear "inject us with thorazine" instead of "injust such a potent seed"?

yea pretty much. the optimism and seemingly progress of spreading culture creating diversity; liberating countries who never asked for help and then forcing culture on them ;-)... seems like we'r movin on up huh?

    ;-) just a recipe.

In school, we're taught to worship our ancestors who came from Europe to what is now America and slaughtered most of the native people living there and forced their own way of living on the people living there whom they did not kill. Greg is saying that this is asinine and that modern day people who worship these ancestors are also asinine people.

This song more than almost any other BR song supports my viewpoint that they are actually a very very religious band. You could have pulled these lyrics right out of saint Francis’ mouth. Or any mystical thinker of any of the world’s wisdom paths. Ironically, bad religion and Black Sabbath are two of the most religious bands. It’s like listening to a heavy gospel song. Punk is a spiritual awakening.
