You've Got to Hide Your Love Away Lyrics

Here I stand head in hand
Turn my face to the wall
If she's gone I can't go on
Feelin' two-foot small

Everywhere people stare
Each and every day
I can see them laugh at me
And I hear them say

Hey you've got to hide your love away
Hey you've got to hide your love away

How could I even try
I can never win
Hearing them, seeing them
In the state I'm in

How could she say to me
Love will find a way
Gather round all you clowns
Let me hear you say

Hey you've got to hide your love away
Hey you've got to hide your love away

Vedder does do it justice, but as with most covers the original is still highly superior.

John Lennon is awesome, one of The Beatles best songs. Basically he's saying your a fool to hide your love away even if it ends up breaking your heart. It would be sad for a person to go through life and not experience love. That's why he sings "Gather round all you clowns, let me hear you say, hey, you"ve got hide your love away"; he calls them clowns because he understood that love is worth it, even if it ends up turning bad.

Another of Lennon's that we wrote through the influence of Bob Dylan, and similar to John's "I'm A Loser." In his first line, he says, with his head in his hand, and his face turned toward the wall, is a perfect description of how Lennon was feeling when he wrote this song. The song itself deals with a relationship that has gone wrong, and John's feelings for a girl he lost. This song is also interesting for two reasons: First, it features only acoustic guitars, and second, it featured another musician on the flute solo. This musician's name is John Scott, an arranger as well, who was never mentioned in the credits on the album sleeve. Lennon wrote this song at his Kenwood home, and it was used in the film sequence when actress Eleanor Bron went to the house where The Beatles were staying to try to retrieve the ring. Also, this actress is the one whom it was thought Paul may have been referring to in his song, "Eleanor Rigby," yet I believe it was from the gravestone reference.

I think it's about being in love with a girl you can't have, or someone you can't have. All the 'she' references in the song obviously point to a hetero kind of love, but you can see it in a homo way if you wish. This is why the Beatles surpass all boundaries. Not bad for four scallies with a Dylan album on repeat! Dylan is over-rated and Lennon wiped the floor with him in just over two minutes.

I read on a fundamentalist Christian anti-Beatle website that this song was about masturbation, LOL!

Whether it was Lennon's intention or not this song, to me, is about having your heart broken and not knowing what to do 'cos you're still in love. In that respect, there is no song i can think of that does a better job of conveying that feeling than this one.

Regos. Jesus. Pearl Jam is fucking amazing. But to say that they were more passionate than the beatles is barely worth the scoffing face that i'm giving it now. In a perfect world hyper masculine heterosexist folks like you would be sodomized repeatedly in a dark prison deep in the heart of the Moab Desert. Perhaps instead of being such a hardcore fan of the Ramones and Neil Young you should stop licking balls and start realizing that there is more to music...like talent, of which the beatles had an undisputedly high amount. It doesnt really matter if you like the beatles or not, but its kind of lame knowing that you hate the beatles for you to come on to a beatles forum just shit talk. Seriously dude, there are more constructive things to be doing, like wanking, or learning how to appreciate real music. Additionally it doesnt matter if this song was influenced by bob dylan. Bob Dylan was very influentual and talented, it isnt a surprise that other artists would imitate his work. The important thing is that the Beatles also made work that was also entirely original (see the white album/abby road/rubber soul) that didn't sound like bob dylan. At anyrate, as far as i can tell the only redeeming part of your personality is that you enjoy listening to pearl jam. But perhaps its time for you to take off the oversized unbuckled black boots, and checkered flannel shirt and realize that hardcore pearl jam fans don't exist anymore. But this song rocks. lots of passion, interesting lyrical skemes everything that makes a song totally rockin'. piss off regos.

I can understand that this song has a deeper meaning and everything, but personally.. when i listen to it, and think about what it means, it's just about a man who is suffering after the end of a relationship and can't hide what he is feeling. He feels that people's advice is wrong and insensitive. they can see him in a state that he can't hide. whether it's about a woman or man i don't know, but it is about being heartbroken.

I listened to this about 10 times while reading the lyrics, and was struck deeply by it. It is now one of my favorite songs of all time.

I think this song paints a beautifully sad picture of sadness. Someone crying, for whatever reason. The feeling that people are watching and judging you and feeling insecure and the people saying things like its going to be okay, move on, forget it feels like they are saying "Hide your love away", hide your tears and pain.

About how he tries to fight those people but gives in and allows these people in to "comfort him"
